ED, glad you're feeling better from the flu.
Also, I'm very happy to hear things seem to be moving along now. Hopefully the component manufacturing continues to work a LOT smoother this year.
Cheers!
Didn't the Beagle Board guys get around the licensing for HDMI by not making it HDMI but instead making it DVI which is the same video, but no audio? Would something like that work if the licensing were a LOT less?
PC Gaming Guru. He created Doom and Quake, both revolutionary for the way they used 3d. I think Quake was one of the first, if not THE first 1st person shooter to use OpenGL, so he's often looked at as the guy who moved gaming on any game system into OpenGL or any of the accelerate...
Then, if LukeVP actually runs into Carmack, invite him over. Slap a Commander Keen helmet on him and have him reign death on all us poor mortals in Q3 Arena hovering above us all in his evil Armadillo lander / command center. :-b. God I don't want to get back to the studies. Cheers!
Edit...
I have a picture of a Pandora LAN party atop Craig's place once component manufacturing more or less stabilizes, everybody smashed out of their gourd and trying to keep from smashing it on the ground below. Cans of Joose, Red Bull, and beer littering the roof and grounds below. People passed...
emcee,
Hopefully investors would allow them to find the most consistent manufacturers. Unfortunately with relatively small runs somebody who produces for one batch may put off their order for the next batch. Except for the socketed nubs and maybe one or two other can be delayed tweaks...
Hopefully based off of experience BB and Panda Board production. Taking the whole thing with a large grain of sale, of course.
While there were no nubs involved, there were surface mount DVI, USB, and Ethernet connections.
Or try openpandorasales@gmail.com . The time estimate is just that. It could be pessimistic, or overly optimistic. It's difficult to tell since there are so many components that depend on other components. I wouldn't imagine you'd get it before February since the Chinese New Year is coming...
Ed would be in a better place than I to answer this, but don't they still need the last 1k or so of cases to finish off Batch 2? I've kinda lost track.
I'm hoping if there is a more or less steady stream of parts that batch 3 would follow close on the heals of batch 2 and the Chinese New Year...
Trey,
Thank you for taking the time to do this. ED, as always, thanks for your updates.
Here's to hoping for a few hundred units getting shipped before the New Year, and a steadyish stream of parts after the Chinese new year!
Cool, and I really do hope things get cleaned up for round 3+. I'd like to see the Pandora 1 get the user base it deserves.
Edit: and a Pandora 2.
I even like the idea of the iControlPad as long as Google / Apple don't go out of their way to make controllers a pain to use.
Ah, true. I've no idea how big the modem would be, or what nooks or crannies are available in the case to place it.
I wouldn't guess we'd see one until a Pandora 2 anyway as it would require redoing the Pandora's board. Hopefully by that time OMAP4+ with enough shrink in components that a...
Maybe combine this with the how to improve the Pandora thread?
I'd guess a "newer" Pandora really will pivot on how this one does. If the manufacturing delays don't get worked out first or second quarter of next year - I'm talking for batch 3+ here - I wouldn't expect to see a Pandora 2...
I'd probably just go with a drawing program on the Pandora. I think they have the game controls & keyboard working as a usb and / or bluetooth controller, I'd imagine they could do the same for the screen.
It won't be as accurate as a Wacom, and probably limited pressure detection...
Well, if 2nd sd slot is too good to give up - and if you're going to run an OS on one SD slot rather than changing nand all the time.... and copying, etc. I can see that.
Why not do what cell phones do and place the sim somewhere near the battery - you're not going to want to remove it...
