    Homebrew competition!!

All, I've been busy with work and school. Alas, I shan't have anything for the competition. :( Good luck for those who do have entries!

    That's a nice bit o' work FaeMinx.

    Cave Story Pnd

If the instructions for wrapping a program in Ginge one's self aren't clear enough, or involve too many steps for most, I could see distributing a shell script as a separate program - no Ginge included - that could help. Still, even with that, the proper thing would be to get his approval for...

Who wants to become commercial game developers?

Zev, audio is one of the areas I think many of us aspiring coders lack skills, so I see no lack of collaboration opportunities for you. No business model as yet - need to get at least one game finished! If the game was made to make money - I'd guess a lot of the games aren't being done that...

    Homebrew competition!!

B-Zar, love the run and gun. It's a little odd to me seeing those huge boulders and being able to run / shoot right past them. Really like the grenades. Like the background wall, want something other than just brown for the platforms you're running on. I second Anihil8ion's sentiment...

    Homebrew competition!!

A *LOT* of work to do, but wanted to share some tile blitting and the first few frames of my Sprite Sheet. Cheers! Will probably hold off on the bed and the poor wood tile as that's more for a top down RPG style game. Fairly happy with the shaded bit of the blanket. Pillows are crud. The...

Who wants to become commercial game developers?

I'm not messing with 3d just yet - I intend to in a bit, but one thing at a time! If you're willing to go 2D to get something up and running, look at LazyFoo's tutorials. They do a decent job of stepping you through initializing SDL, getting a single large background image on the screen, all...

In-game advertising: gathering thoughts, opinions on the matter

An add on exit isn't too bad. Sort of sharewareish. I'd give the person an option to purchase for...what, $5 to disable said add - assuming there wasn't simply a "Don't bug me with this ever again!" with no charge checkbox. Heck, the $5 straight to the developer could be the add. :-b

Who wants to become commercial game developers?

You can...but then you'd be writing assembly for many different systems and video card configurations. Generally you'd avoid it like the plague as it becomes a porting nightmare. If I write a game in SDL, I simply recompile it for x86 Linux, XP, Mac, Pandora, etc. Where you'd typically see...

Who wants to become commercial game developers?

I'd guess, like most independent projects, the main thing the author or authors need is persistence. It would also really help if said developers had a dedicated chunk of time for their project on a daily, or at worst weekly basis. The worst thing for a project is to let it sit for so long you...

    Homebrew competition!!

Richiz, You're further along than I am, and it reminds me of some very cool Commadore 64 games. Jump Man comes to mind. I wouldn't trash the code. Seeing if you can get somebody to help you with the bottlenecks, or profiling it to see if you can find them yourself seems the better way to go.

Where Do You Use Your Gadgets?

I'm guessing the equivalent of full coverage on the car, which, depending on the policy, can also insure its contents.

    Any military Pandora users?

Aye, this. I'm debating just shutting if off between uses. I don't always know that I'll be using it within a day or two, and having it out of batteries all together is worse than dealing with a bootup screen - and it does boot fairly quick. Especially given a relatively slow charge rate - or...

    Homebrew competition!!

Development speed, I'm guessing? Luck with the game entry! I'm doing a similar thing, but 400x240. Edit: And it looks like most of you are a ways ahead of me. I'd better get to coding! Well, after Dundracon at any rate...

A Rambling Review of the Pandora after ~5 days of Incessant Tinkering

It took me a while to get used to the analog stick as click, but it's working pretty well for me now.

    Homebrew competition!!

Video of a test red screen coming up! :-b Maybe this will give me the encouragement I need to stick with the silly game until I have something worthwhile to show, rather than continually putting it down.

    The best web browser?

I'm really liking The beta Fierfox 4. Responsive and none of the glitches seen in Midori...including Openpandora official pages! Edit: Chromium's not bad at all - a good option for anybody who doesn't need Firefox's plugins. Scrolling seems snappier in Chromium. I'd definitely say we've...

    Pandy @ Work

Your blokes from the bar randomly fix your things!?! I want them to train the guys I hang with. Mine're guaranteed to make things worse. (And fixing the shoulder button? From the forum posts I could see a sticky keyboard button, but not the shoulder.) :-b

A little help for the Platforming Competition

It's been suggested before, but http://lazyfoo.net/SDL_tutorials/index.php is a pretty good beginner's guide.
