    Understanding the lurkers

In the same boat here. Ordered a pandora from the first batch and (to make a long story short) never received it. One of ED's offers for people in this situation was to wait for the pyra and buy it at production cost. This information is given near the bottom of the pyra preorder FAQ page...

    Old pandora preorders

For those people who ordered a pandora, never received it, and opted to wait for the pyra, do you have all the details worked out for that offer ED? There was a brief mention of it here (https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/preorders-will-start-in-two-hours.77328/#post-1375434), but I'm...

    Define a "classic" pandora

Alright I've taken the plunge.  Upgrade email is sent.  ED, it has been said many times, but thanks again for doing what you can to salvage this situation.

    Define a "classic" pandora

Ah, so it is a refurbed pcb.  Thanks for the pointer.

    Define a "classic" pandora

I'm pretty sure this has been answered elsewhere, but I can't find it at the moment. If someone takes the option to upgrade to a classic unit then what exactly does that consist of? I'm under the impression that it includes a hand-fixed pcb from some failed circuitco run (with original OMAP /...

    Why no rebirth upgrade option?

Yeah it had occurred to me that the production costs were about the same, but I thought I'd ask since the sale prices are still different.  Looking again now the rebirth pandoras are selling at cost already (or really close). Leaning toward getting a classic unit now.

    Why no rebirth upgrade option?

I'm a "first batch" preorderer (Oct 2009) that opted to wait without paying any extra when the survey was sent out.  Mostly because of my I'm-not-giving-Craig-Rothwell-another-red-cent policy.  Now that he is officially out of the picture I'm warming up to the idea of upgrading, but I'm curious...

Original First Batch Orders - Are You In Craig's Queue? [Please read 1st post]

I ordered October 2009.  Even though I'm not active on the forums (to avoid raging over the mismanagement) I'm still lurking and waiting.

    Shipping and order numbers

Oh might as well, my order was Oct. 15th 2009. By all means post when yours ships. Kcilorak, Snostrebla, Deadinside that goes for any of you.

    Advice from a manufacturing engineer

The scripting interface is a little off-putting, but what really bothered me was that there seems to be no support for a contoured surface of any kind, every surface is broken into flat facets. See here for an example: http://edutechwiki.unige.ch/en/OpenScad_beginners_tutorial#Sphere Now...

    Advice from a manufacturing engineer

Ugh, been there before. Thankfully most of what I do is taking old (pre-CAD) designs and model them up and so avoid most of that. Since we also do our own machining all of our CAM files update with any design adjustments (if I do my part right). But you guys would not have any advantages like...

    Advice from a manufacturing engineer

Ah, thread necromancy at its finest. That is interesting though since the big advantage of parametric modeling is supposed to be ease of making dimensional changes. I went from a hideous wireframe/surface CAD package to full blown parametric solid modeling and now can't imagine going back...

    Advice from a manufacturing engineer

Yeah, the general consensus seems to be that it is too early to change much. They can worry when mounds of parts are laying around. My offer to help still stands though. As long as I don't have to write any TPS reports! Off-topic: you did the case design right? What CAD system did you use...

    Advice from a manufacturing engineer

I completely understand that you have had to work with whatever you had on hand given the irregular deliveries so far, and pre-assembling what you do have is also a great idea. But what are your intentions for the medium/long term. Pretty soon you will receive a boat load of cases and a stack...

    Advice from a manufacturing engineer

Hi all, this is my first post after lurking for a long time so get comfy it is a long one. I work in a machine shop as a manufacturing engineer and I have some experience with lean manufacturing (a.k.a. the toyota production system) strategies. After watching the "Day in a life of..." video I...
