FWIW, I've already started something like this, though I'm not all that close to finishing it. Heh. I have far too many little projects that I start but don't ever finish :P
Final Fantasy 3/6 works great on PocketSNES guys... only area I've been to that had too much frameskipping to look nice has been floating continent (transparencies + really large area... heh)
If you don't like the Final Fantasy 3 SNES Translation, there are fan translation patches for the...
^ I believe it ignores fstab and mounts everything (/mnt/nand and /mnt/sd) in the menu application, which is idiotic, I can't wait for Open2X to fix the stupidity of the GP2X boot process.
Hasn't ever failed on me, and I own an early MK1 model. I think the 100,000 press thing is pretty much just a number thrown out there by the manufacturers, it should last a lot longer than that.
Possible, but IMO not worth the hassle. I think you have to mount the filesystem yourself (or set an autorun script to do it) because the GP2X (stupid) bootprocess will only mount FAT32 automatically. Also, you might have trouble with some games... a lot of them have been coded so it works on...
Laptops should have widescreens, handhelds should have 4:3 screens. Widescreen movies are still quite watchable on the GP2X screen. What I'd love to see is a 640x480 res screen, though those might not drop in price enough before the next-gen.
I think the 'ran out of money' argument is much more likely... GP went for a few years without really selling any products and the apparent exodus of employees right at the end would seem to support the theory of them just running out of money.
Having the game expect a directory with a capitilized pathname can be problematic on GP2X FAT32. I can only get it to recognize filenames/directories by their all lower-case name on FAT32 partitions.
It also says you can't stop people from distributing binaries/source (I think, I'm not 100% sure), so technically the beta could be distributed by someone who received it... DON'T DO IT though, I can totally understand that zodttd would have reason to be pissed if someone did that. I personally...
I won't lie... this system makes me a little nervous too. But I believe that Zodttd will stick to his word and make public release as soon as it is ready. I plan to donate if I get very much use out of this emulator, but I don't want to feel like I'm paying for the beta version now.
Most OOD stuff is 'free' using g++... you should only get hit if you use virtual functions, and even then I wouldn't think it would be a huge performance hit.
No way the PSP will work with the goldeneye game... that requires "high-end system" on PC N64 emulators. Probably not going to happen on any this-gen handhelds. Just FYI.
