    Mupen64 Will It Have....

Will there be support for emulating a partially dislodged cartridge? I'd like to get down on the Pandora. Yeah, it's not the most serious of requests. But hey, it would be kind of awesome (if pointless).

In that case first batch units would be less desirable anyway and you'd have to identify what batch you run before selling or get less money. It works exactly like that for WRT45G routers - some revisions are still considered the best platform to run homebrew firmwares on while others are...

Exactly. If they really do go with something printed under the device I'll probably cover the area with some kind of transparent foil. They sell those for books and it might just work for the Pandora, as well. Of course, not putting the logo in sucha high-wear area in the first place would...

Normally, the USB port is hooked up to the 2.0 controller, which can hand the connection over to a 1.0/1.1 controller if a slow connection is detected. (Someone more knowledgeable correct me if I got it wrong.) In the case of the Pandora, one of the ports (the regular sized one) has a 2.0...

Agreed. The USB ports could have "OTG" and "2.0" next to the logo. At least the 2.0 to remind the user that the port doesn't do 1.0/1.1. Now that has class. I voted in favor of the "First Batch" text but those signatures are superior. The only problem is that they might rub off easily as the...

    Silk Screen Poll

The Pandora software scene is very likely to be English-centric with very few (Pandora-specific) apps seeing L10N for more than a handful of locales and most only upporting English. Unless the Pandora manages to edge in on the high-profile handheld market (with sales numbers comparable to that...

An elite Pandora buyer also has the intelligence to build the Linux installation on his Pandora from scratch (well, I'm going to allow using Gentoo), yet I still expect the thing to work out of the box. I have better things to do than memorize what every status LED on a gadget means before I...

Or that it's a different console because if it wasn't it wouldn't have a different logo. "What will an idiot think" is not a good measure to apply here because that would lead to the only applicable solution being a three-paragraph text on first-grader level explaining how the unit was one of...

When Is The Real Release Date...

It's well known that the first 90% of a project take 90% of the time and the last 10% also take 90% of the time.

If we need text we should go with "First Batch". Then the subsequent batches can be "Pandora: First Batch Part 2", "Pandora 3" and "John Pandora". Alternatively, the second batch could get the text "Electric Boogaloo". Seriously, though, "First Batch" is good, as is the logo. It's just a nice...

What, the dollar has fallen again? ;) Also, I'm transplanting my last post's edit to here; I underestimated the speed at which this thread progresses. (@RedBaron) On a more serious note, if you have worked on electronics projects before, can you give me a back-of-the-hand estimate on what a...

*sigh* When talking about Europe, please do use terms people outside the United States can make sense of. 1" is equivalent to 2.5 centimeters. $10 million is equivalent to 612.45 EUR. The last word of the German report on your solution is correctly spelled "sonderbar".

Or a welcome application (even if it's just a bunch of HTML documents) that tells you what the Pandora is capable of and gives you a bunch of shortcuts to directly install a media player, Enlightenment, various emulators etc. Have the media player entry read something like: "Due to licensing...

    Button Scheme

We could just handle this through a config file. /etc/pandora/buttons is a text file containing the names programs use for the buttons. The first line is for button 1, the second is for button 2, etc. That way, you can do whatever you want to your buttons and compliant games will always get it...

Unfortunately the only alternative is to license all the codecs, which would make the Pandora a good bit more expensive. I just checked how much it would cost them to just support H.264 video with AAC audio and nothing else, using this calculator. Assuming they sell 10,000 Pandoras per year...

    Can The Pandora Get Viruses?

Actually, you can package all libraries except for those that come with the core OS with every application. OS X works like that and it works very well. You do lose a bit of storage but given modern storage devices it's not too serious. Yes, it's a bit annoying to have the GIMP come with 132 MiB...

When Is The Real Release Date...

PHP is more optimistic: $ echo '<?php $day = rand(1, 30); echo "The Pandora will arrive on the ${day}th of November.\n" ?>' |php The Pandora will arrive on the 6th of November. Ruby guesses a bit more conservatively but still well before the 13th: $ echo 'print "The Pandora will arrive on the...

    Shoulder Buttons

If everything else fails you can get a Dreamcast pad, glue an USB adapter to the bottom, somehow mount the Pandora on the top (over the expansion ports, not on top of the VMU display) and play like that. Could get a bit heavy, though.

    Pandora & The Alphagrip Keyboard

I just did an image search for the thing; there are buttons on the backside as well. Still not that many but definitely enough to have all necessary keys through either chording or excessive use of modifiers. Given that the thing has three kind of shift as well as Fn, the latter should be the case.

    2Nd Batch Upgrades?

Oh, they also make money from game licensing – actually, "making the most money off the console" probably only applies if the games don't sell well. The point is that Nintendo tries to be able to break even with consoles alone. As for the N64 being under-appreciated: I agree that the N64 had...
