    Kernel Support For P Hardware

So now we are on the brink of August, the month when many of us were hoping we'd see Pandora released. The most interesting thing about notaz' recent Q2 vids (for me) was its worrying lack of sound. Notaz did say that he wasn't using the latest kernel but neglected to say if the latest kernel...

    Dialup

Yes, you will be able to access dial-up on the Pandora. You will need * A USB to serial (RS232) cable * A serial/analogue dial-up modem And then you'll probably also want a nice dial-up GUI such as gnome-ppp. There is at least one other nice dial-up app that use GTK but doesn't require the...

    Fpu Test

Does the new kernel have sound support then? Apart from TV out and power management what other important Pandora hardware support is missing from the latest kernel? Sound? Wifi? USB2 host?

    Fpu Test

You can run Q2 smoothly on the Zaurus cxxxx series at 320x240 so I know this isn't pushing Pandora one bit. I'm waiting to see Q3 GLes @ 800x480 through TV out! So are we still missing ALSA (or OSS) support for the Pandora sound chip or you using an old kernel notaz?

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

Aha! mweston speaks! Thanks for your reply, interesting stuff as ever. I for one have absolutely no interest in an eeepc sized Pandora, because as you say you're then competing with much more powerful x86 devices. Inferior battery life of course but you can do stuff like video editing on a x86...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

ljones: If you want a non-portable Pandora thats already being catered for by the BeagleBoard- you could stick in any housing you want just as long as its bigger than the BB. The market for something that is as big or bigger than a laptop but only with Pandora/BB processing power is going to be...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

Fishbong: The Zaurus, despite its great hardware, could've been MUCH more successful than it was but it was prevented from succeding because: * Sharp didn't understand the open source community AT ALL ("Why would people want the source code?") * It was too highly priced for most *The good...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

Shame you don't know any more about it, but I can almost guarantee there'll be some big drawback, like it'll be running Win mobile, won't have USB2 host or something. This has been the case for years and years. Many Psion users defected to the Zaurus cxxxx and although the hardware was top-notch...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

sold: That looks interesting. What is it though? Anyone got any specs? chad78: Thanks for the first posting in this thread that wasn't just totally dissing my idea. You'd think I'd suggested we replace the Pandora with a Z80 CPU and run Vista on it or something! :)

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

I asked a question of the Pandora devs openly and then I got attacked by the naysayers wanting to piss on my parade.Yes, its my fault for taking their bait but to say there is NO market for such a device would be silly. You are twisting my words too as my original post wasn't suggesting they...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

parag0n: You too can make up situations all you like but until craigix or mweston posts to this thread and says "No Way" or words to such effect then this is still a valid and open thread/ proposition. Besides, even Craig and mweston don't know how popular Pandora will turn out to be and what...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

Do you have any clue what your talking about? Maybe you do know more about PCB manufacturing and design than I do but I'm primarily directing this question at mweston, I just thought I'd do it openly to see if anyone else on this board would be interested in such a model. Less features? Not...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

If I understand icurafu correctly, he is arguing against a keyboard edition because he is presuming that a slightly different Pandora model would cause developers lots more work and headaches trying to support two models and hence software quality would be diluted. I've already addressed this...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

Normal MID? If it would be so normal, then were can I get something exactly like what I'm describing? Maybe, with a lot of hacking, you could wrangle a Beagle Board into a Zaurus casing but no-ones pulled that off that I know of yet. Besides, the Pandora is much smaller and so can't be clasified...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

So could someone please explain to me what this is then: I thought this was the Pandora mobo. Has that been scapped and replaced with a design with a hard-wired keyboard so that if our joypad or keyboard breaks we have to replace the entire guts of the Pandora? As I say, there may not be...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

No the Pandora IS NOT just a gaming device. God knows how many times we've been over this. The Pandora is BOTH a gaming device AND a pocket Linux computer, but they have the potential to make greater inroads into the nascent 'pocket computer' (not really for games but still possible) segment by...

    Pandora "keyboard Edition"

I know there have been many posts along the lines of "Please remove the keyboard from the Pandora" so I'm trying re-dress the balance a bit with this thread ;) In opposition to those saying "Why do we need a keyboard?" there are also those such as myself who would much rather scrap the joypad...

Is This Something To Be Concerned About?

And of course tracking originated on the Amiga which only had a 16-bit, 7Mhz cpu. OK, the Amiga had a dedicated sound chip to handle the samples (8-bit Paula) but still, tracking isn't going to push the Pandora at all. I frequently used to overclock my Zaurus to 624Mhz when compiling stuff...
