As OpenGL requires a C style array for glVrtexPointer() and related functions, a dynamic array is necessary. I was wondering if the use of STD::vector here would create any major performance decrease, and should be creating this with new/malloc instead.

Dev C++ is an IDE that uses MinGW, a port of GCC, it hasn't bean updated since 2005. If you must use an IDE go with something newer, such as code::blocks. though personally I find programming in a text editor(Vim) to be substantially easier.

Yes, you have to add the current directory to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. Though normally you would use a makefile to copy the files into the correct directory's.
The renderer is effectivly a global resource manager, as it directly or indirectly stores pointers to everything, and will handle object deletion when the renderer is destroyed.
Il probably make it store pointers to all created sprites as well as all of the quads.

After playing the game, it would be good if ailians didn't hail you if you don't have anything to sell, espetilly early in the game where its hard to tell what a planet has on it. Also, it would be good if this would run full screen.
