The long road to a final unit

Although 2 materials would probably have to be involved, there's no obvious reason to limit one material to the tip. We could have a hard plastic or metallic core (depending on the preferred weight of the stylus) and cover it in a rubber-like material. No scratches and no uncomfortable edges...

The long road to a final unit

The Wacom digitizers sit behind the screen and therefore doesn't have to be transparent. They're still too expensive but I felt that this needed to be clarified.

Well if it damages the bridge then I think it would fall under endangering the public. The damage per lock is probably very small, but by encouraging others to do the same (putting up the lock so that it's clearly visible how easy it is) they are slowly chewing away the design margins. It also...

    Pandora+Pyra applications: /usr/share/pandyra

I was thinking more along the lines of having the file /etc/board containing the name of the device. Valid contents would be "pandora", "pandora 1ghz", " pandora rebirth" and "pyra". All lowercase and in the format "board [variant]". The file is terminated with a newline. This way it's easy to...

Looks like adding a U.FL connector might be pretty simple right next to the antenna, though I doubt you would gain a lot from it. Wireless can be very tricky at times so it might even reduce the signal quality (while still increasing the signal strength).

    Pandora+Pyra applications: /usr/share/pandyra

I agree with both sides. There should be some standard resources in a standard location, but I think it would be absolutely critical to have a standard path to a board identification file. This way we have a standardized way to differ between Pandoras and Pyras.

    Pressure sensitive shoulders?

Oh sorry, I had forgotten about that.

The Pyra case should have this colour as an option!

I'd like white, but color matching with the keyboard will be a pain. Brushed metal insides would solve that issue, but it would instead mess up the outer edges. That being said, we could use some vinyl film to create arbitrary textures and apply them with heat (there are companies which does...

    Pressure sensitive shoulders?

The left side is a bit more problematic but on the right side you could just jam a tiny little ADC in there. I haven't followed the traces but they could even meet up at some point where there's room for a dual ADC.

And now for something completely different (Keyboard Option)

The outer Pyra buttons seem highly redundant, can't we just have the center one and lock it on shift press or something?

    Pressure sensitive shoulders?

You're right, they are varistors according to their datasheets. Chinese suppliers list them as piezoresistors, though by definition they clearly are not. I didn't even notice a few of them being labeled as varistors.

    Pressure sensitive shoulders?

Piezoresistors are resistors that change their resistance when you apply force to them.

    Pressure sensitive shoulders?

Well, there are some pretty small piezoresistors: http://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-piezoresistor.html Can't seem to find many outside of china though.

And now for something completely different (Keyboard Option)

Some S3 UniChrome III variant I think, it's not a very interesting chip to develop drivers for due to it's rarity.

Bit there's still the issue of graphics drivers. You could draw everything using software rendering but then video isn't going to play very well.

And now for something completely different (Keyboard Option)

Well today I installed Half-Life on it out of curiosity and it is just awful. While I had totally forgotten that I had 2GB in it (I guess I don't pay much attention to the memory usage in XP anymore?), it performs worse than I remembered. It occasionally achieves 20-30 fps in small closed areas...

And now for something completely different (Keyboard Option)

Trust me, you don't want one of these nowadays. Since the company went under and VIA doesn't care, drivers aren't updated anymore. Also, the performance is so bad a Pandora might actually be faster with modern browsers. Keep in mind the Wibrain B1 used a VIA C7-M 1.2GHz single core x86 CPU...

And now for something completely different (Keyboard Option)

All right, let's kill off the keyboard layout discussion once and for all. This keyboard layout was an absolute train wreck in theory. Yet it feels amazingly good to type and play games with, despite actually lacking some keys (like '§' for instance). I know because I have one and let me tell...

    Pyra questions

There are a lot of options, most notably SSH (SCP/SFTP) [just noticed klapse beat me to it] but there are other ways like plain old FTP, TFTP, rsync (admittedly SSH but it's still a nice utility), BitTorrent Sync or other small utilities. Even NetCat could do the job.
