Hi

I just wanted to post here to say how happy I am with the GP32. I can't believe that this little thing does such a good job at all the emulation projects people throw at it. I have a pretty well spec'd computer running a state-of-the-art OS and the emulators I have aren't half as good as the GP32's ones.

I think it's the fact that the GP32 is such a small machine with limited resources that drives the developers to create really lean emulators for it which do an amazing job. CaSTaway on GP32 blows the emulator I have on my computer out of the water, and other emulators I have tried are often slow too, but the GP32 continues to amaze me with what it has at its disposal. Clever tricks like GPAdvance's MMU technique are exactly the sort of innovation which only comes with having a tight problem to solve and making it happen rather than simply relying on more power. That's why I am unsure about all the talk of GP32 mods at the moment.

Well done all the hard working devs who create everything and I hope that other coders one day can learn from the GP32 and make their software just as capable and efficient. We now have so many things which were thought impossible some time ago that it is really a great time to own a GP32!

Yes, it is truly amazing now. I just put some new stuff on today after a long period of not using my GP, and I said the exact same thing to myself. What can we play perfectly now: Nes, GB/C, Atari ST, C64, Atari 8 bit, Master system, PC Engine, Gamegear, ZX Spectrum, and a whole lot more. And we can play Snes and Megadrive excellently if not perfectly. I will never get bored of this thing!

 erm...the gp32's great and all that, but that's taking it too far. If you need any help at finding good pc emulators post in offtopic or pm me. I agree with everything else you say though.

Yeah I would say thats pushing it a bit. Now if my hacked xbox was the size of the gp32 then that would blow my mind and I would not ask for another thing ever.

I have to say message boards can be a little crazy sometimes, only a few posts down there is someone claiming GP32 is terrible for emulators. Now we have someone claiming it's better than a PC?

Fact is GP32 is a great little machine, kind of like the modded Xbox of the handheld world. But if you compare Snes9X running on an Xbox and a SNES emu running on the GP32, sorry but the Xbox does win out! It's not *that* good!

However it is perfectly possible to have an emulator (or any game for that matter) for the PC which isn't using the hardware right and is chugging like mad. You'll have to tell us which emulators for the PC you are using to be sure.
[For example, try Steve Snake new one: Kega Fusion. It's amazing!]

I enjoy emulators more on my GP32 than my PC simply because the hardware feels more natural than any PC interface I've tried.

Playing Final Fantasy VI on a PC monitor just doesn't feel right.

Hi

I think there's some confusion, I didn't mean that the GP32 is better than a PC, I meant that it is USED better and seems to be more efficient because of the effort people put in to circumvent the restrictions it places on performance. I reckon a lot of PC emulators are pretty sloppy if you take them apart in comparision to the fine tuned ones we have. If only all coders were as focused at efficiency of code etc then the emulators I have on my computer would run better than they sometimes do.

Hope that clears it up, I don't have a PC anyway, I use a Mac and there's a lot less emulator choice and development going on there (Still waiting for decent Amiga!).

But eficience is nto as good as the of GBA coders: ZX Speccy emulation (perfect)
SMS, NES, GB (no GBC), PCE, a little bit of SNES...

GP32 is not that advanced! I hate playing Final Fantasy VI at half the speed on my GP32, it is so annoying.
But I guess emulation has come a very long way, and I am glad.

Yes, GBA emulation is very very good too. But I think they have a lot of help from the GBA's graphics hardware and stuff.
