Hi,

Just wondering, will the Pyra (or Dragonbox) be at the Gamescom 2016?

Regards!
Jeroen

And I'm hoping to help out again. ;)

@Askarus So for me as a heads up, I'm not wrong to expect an email at a random point in time regarding helping out again? Don't want to spam you guys again like last year unless I have to.

gah... I am missing the gamecom for like the tenth time. I always want to go, but either can't get a ticket or don't have the time. this yeare I completely forgot that it's coming... oh well. someday.

You know, I was all for ED selling the WIN as well, after all , money is money. So it doesn't matter if he is earning it from WIN sales or Pyra sales.

But for some reason, I don't know, something is not sitting right about it . I suppose I see that as adding another brick to undermining sales of the Pyra. Yes money is money and Ed may not be financially any worse off, but it could reduce the number of sales of the Pyra and the Pyra community - which if did happen, would be bad for the Pyra community

Maybe I'm over thinking it. Anyway, I suppose people can get the WIN elsewhere if they wanted, so yeah I guess there's that. Better I suppose for ED to get those WIN sales money in that regard. Because the flip side would be that if ED only sold the Pyra and wasn't able to make enough money of it, that would also be bad for everyone.

So after all that, I suppose I managed to post two opposite thoughts thus cancelling each other out. Continue on :)

Well, the GPD Win WILL be sold, that is something I cannot prevent.
So I can either sell it and make profit I can use for the Pyra and other projects or let someone else sell it.

One of the worst things Craig did in my opinion was deciding to NOT sell the WIZ and Caanoo, as they were competitors.
He even tried to convince me to do the same. He only wanted to sell the Pandora.

Due to the time it took to finish the Pandora, he lost A LOT of money because of that. Monthly costs without having anything that makes profit is pretty bad.

I was able to make profit each month with the WIZ and Caanoo, the shop grew and grew and these days, we ship about 15 orders per day.

So NOT selling the GPD Win would be a very bad move. People would just get it somewhere else.
Besides, my shop was always focussed on selling niche handhelds and devices that you can't get anywhere else in Germany.
So the Win fits perfectly here.

And I don't see the GPD Win as that big competition.
If someone wants a portable Windows handheld, the Pyra would never be a good device for him.
But if someone wants a fully open system he can tinker with, needs mobile internet or wants a replacable battery or the SD Card slots or the many USB Ports... then the Pyra is the better device.

There might also be users who can't afford a Pandora, but could afford a GPD Win.

So both have different customer groups in my opinion. Of course, they also have a shared customer group, but those would buy it elsewhere.

Each three GPD Win sold, one Pyra can be born :)

Why wouldn't the shared customer group just get both with combined shipping?

Edit: The demographic interested in both, would hopefully get the best one. Further exploring the notion of a symbiotic relationship, one can hope good features and methods are implemented in both.

One on (perhaps slightly shortsighted) view, do we really want people who want a Win in this community? ;)

More seriously, more importantly going forward is probably people's trust in ED. If he can provide the over-and-above service he's been providing for GPDs existing products, people will look to him once the lifetime of their Win is over, and may consider buying a Pyra, which hopefully will have entered its golden period by then.

ED doesn't put all his eggs in one basket, but he does have his own babies which he likes to nourish more than the others ;).

For me personally the Gpd WIN is not interesting at all! I would never buy it if the Pyra wouldn't exist. Maybe 15 years ago when I still was into playing games. I think, that there are some other people out there who want a small LINUX driven device for the sake of mobility+privacy+openness

I don't expect that everything will work perfectly on the Pyra, when it ships. But this is OK for me. I like to tinker around with my gadgets. I can imagine, that people who order a GDP Win expect a device working flawlessly (although this is likely not to happen even with the GPD Win). If those people get a Pyra they might be disappointed, simply because of the fact, that the operating system used is more complex and needs some knowledge to operate as desired.

So ED, go for it, sell the GPD Win!
