Thanks again for all the help everyone and apologies for the delay in answering, it's been one of those weeks and I haven't had a chance.
I've tried contact cleaner with no luck I'm afraid.
The output of dmesg, with a card in the left slot, is as follows
And when I try ls-l as above I get...
What is it they say? Every day's a schoolday!
Thanks for the info about card naming, that clears up one mystery.
I still have no idea what happened to the slot though. I left the battery out overnight, and I tried air but no luck.
I will send off an RMA email next week.
If anyone is reading...
That's it exactly.
It just seems strange that the access led flashes when I insert a card.
Something is obviously happening in there, even though it's like the slot isn't assigned a name so it can't be accessed.
That made me hope that there might be a software solution.
Thanks again for...
I went to use my Pandora this evening and had a weird problem- the left hand SD slot isn't being read and the right hand slot has been re designated as the left one.
To explain, the left slot is normally called mmcblk0p1 and the right one is mmcblk1p1.
As of tonight, the right slot is called...
Thanks for the replies and advice.
I had an idea that it might be the onset of the dreaded purples but I was trying to convince myself that it wasn't.
Oh well, I'll contact op on Monday.
I'm gonna miss my little pandora when it's gone. :(
Hi all,
I haven't had a chance to come on here for a while as I've been too busy.
It's great to see everone in the community is as friendly and helpful as ever!
And on that note I'm having a problem with my Pandora's screen.
Horizontal lines have appeared on my XFCE workspace, and appear...
AAArgh! You mischief maker! :)
I'm very interested in this, but will need somebody else to take the plunge first >hint hint<.
If they can stop updates being required then I'm all for it.
Can't believe I missed that "a"! D'oh!
I tried it and it still says no sound. But in the mixer controls a usb microphone is listed so something is being recognised. I have tried to switch inputs there but no luck, still nothing.
Thanks again for all this help!
OK, hope this works...
Here's the dmesg.out

And mplayer.out
I've only been using gnome-mplayer's analog tv input, not the command line at all. Could you explain how to enter it in case I did it wrong? Again sorry for the stupid questions.
Great job!
Sorry but I have a couple of more question. Firstly, how do I enter this in mplayer? I'm a total linux newb and I'm not sure about opening a terminal and typing away yet. I must have done it wrong as it said "no such file" or something similar. Also would this work for VLC? Assuming...
