Bad news:
Just right now, I contacted ED to cancel the Aluminum Case project (and he agreed).
Evil Dragon will start giving back the money right now; I will bear the costs for back transfer (as there is PayPal fees, and credit card transfer fees).
This means that every preoder will be repaid...
O.k. ... meanwhile I also believe in "The 2 months™ Pandora curse"
After the crash damages on the machine had been fixed, the 5-Axis kinematic was kompletely faulty (about 3 - 4 mm), so a week later the technician had to show up again. He gauged the machine with a 15.000 Euro equipment and...
Unfortunately I have to announce another 2 - 4 weeks delay, as our CNC crashed yesterday due to a defectively programmed CAM-Postprocessor. We will see the service technicians on Monday but we still do not know how many parts need to be replaced and how long it will take to get the spare parts...
@Fuison Power:
Yes there are Open Source CAM-Processors available and also software with a 90% lower price (like Desk Proto, MAD-CAM, oder Vectrix).
These are all fine for hobby milling oder rapid prototyping and I have got one of them on my computer, e.g. to produce seal rings.
To run a CNC...
As ED said: I did not get a penny for the aluminum cases so far - and I will not ask for it before we really deliver the cases (after ED approved them).
I can somehow understand your desire for just-in-time information.
But please also understand me: The Pandora case is not the only subject I...
Just to give a life-sign:
1. Yes, we still exist.
2. Yes, we are still working on the Pandora and will deliver the cases (hopefully) by end of November.
Anyhow we need to utilize a new CAM software for translating the model into a CNC milling program. Programming a case on the CNC itself is...
O.k. let's give an Update:
We already started the redesign of the housing parts and hopefully we can order the aluminum blocks later next week. Depending on the time the material needs to be delivered, we can start milling early October and finally ship the whole stuff to ED by end of October -...
If someone wants the case *without* the WLAN-Window, please give a notice to ED. For me it is no problem to leave it closed - it even saves me some efforts.
I will start the design and Production as soon as I got the mockup (a fully equipped but not necessarily functional Pandora).
Nice Idea. I...
These colours are anodized hard coating, which is as hard as glass and part of the aluminum - no paint or something. As long as you do not wear diamond (or other crystal) rings, you will hadly have a chance to scratch it. This type of coating is used in industry to protect the inside of...
@thatgui
A prototype would cost around 4000 Euro extra, which means a single case would be 150+ Euro then. And I will not make any prototype unless I get paid for it. I already bear the risk for the whole lot as I do not get any money in advance.
Wifi Window: It is very unlikely that wifi will...
A single case would bear the same workload in preparation as 100+. The milling work itself is the smallest part of this challenge.
There is:
- CAD redesign
- CAM conversion
- calculate and purchasing material and tools
- wait for material and tools to arrive
- setup the machine (placing...
@ mrbazil2k
How many parts does the Al-Case consists of ?
- I still don't know exactly, as I will start the redesign not before 100 preoders are reached. But I aready had a look at the CAD-models and do not see any severe problems.
Are the shoulder buttons made of Aluminium as well ?
- I...
Concerning modding:
AW7075 is very easy to drill and mill (that's the major reason why I use this stuff) as long as you have got a sharp HSS drill (a normal HSS steell drill will do the job - but do NOT use drills for stainless steel - they might pull themselves into the material, resulting in...
