I have been looking at the chatboard problem, ie: people want them but cannot get compoenets to build thier own, or just dont want to be bothered.

I have sourced all components to make them but cannot unfortunatley make them for the same price as Zenochas £10. The parts alone cost more than that but a figure of £20 is feesable and I can make them to order within a week.

So the question is does anyone really want one? If so why not email me and if I get enough interest I will make them up.

what's a chatboard for GP32

it is a Ericson chatboard [Keyboard] (CHA01) that can be used (by a little hardware mod) with the GP32
That should allow things like C64 or AtariST emu with better capabilities

see you

well, has anyone thought about asking any coder working on one of the affected systems emulator if they plan to incorporate chatboard?
If so, I would save up a few bucks and buy one, not now, but soonish

Why are you all talking only about some far east companies or whole cables? I bought myself a connector here in a local mobile service (though in the other part of the city). The CHA-01 + the connector + 10cm of cable cost me (converted) 4 pounds. Is it really so expensive anywhere else? Dont get me wrong, I do understand a potential chatboard seller wants to make a profit, its just I prefer clear price scheme consisting of the price of parts and the price of work.
Btw, I wouldnt be able to solder it myself, I had it done in a shop, which could cost some money, sure, but still its an opportunity for those born without a soldering iron as their third hand ;)

WOW! That’s great that you have managed to source all the components for 4GBP.

I think it only fair that you tell everyone where you have sourced them from, especially as you have only bought a single item of each. That would mean me being able to buy smaller quantities and dropping the price to benefit everyone!

Thanks in advance for sharing the information.

I spent two weeks of searching the web emailing Samsung..., and then had to buy the units buy the 100's to get the price low enough.

I remember buying the connectors with the cables already connected (molded plug at gp32 end, bare wires at the other end) for just £3 from CPC. I got the chatboards from Ebay @ £2 a pop, so it worked out at £5 each.

However, CPC don't have any connectors left in stock now (and say they will not be getting any more, despite the sudden demand).

Certainly work though - one got turned into a JTAG cable, the other into a serial (well, USART) cable, and the third for the chatboard.

There is defintely a market for JTAG cables using those components. If someone had a howto guide.... (I've looked at Spiv's site but am not really techie). It would mean firmware flashing could lead to less trips to the dry cleaners :D

I am getting the impression that people would like to search around themseves on the net for parts to make serial leads, JTAG leads, chattboard interfaces, digital I/O etc...

However for those of you who don't want to RISC of blowing their GP32 when making a serial lead, then I suggest a visit to my site:

It was very easy for me to find a connector, a lead, and a chattboard. But to be able to purchase them in quantity was not quite so easy. The guy in America who promised everyone those Chatboards Last year could probably vouch for that, and he was only going to make 20!

I bought the connector from a company whose home page is www.autotop.cz/cross.
It is a czech company so dont expect to understand a single word (unless you are a czech like me, which would be a great suprise for me :)). Anyway, if you click at "DATOVÉ KONEKTORY MOBILNÍCH TELEFONŮ GSM" , you will find the Samsung connector there. I am not completely sure which one of the three offered there is was, but it shouldnt be a problem to figure it out. Then you can mail the company and ask if they would send it or suggest any other place to get the connector.
For the chatboards, its not that easy here, but I am positive you can find it somewhere on the net. And the short cable? Wohoo ;)
The connector comes in parts, you can easily click it together yourself and plug it in your GP32.
Hope more people will get themselves the chatboard....

if all you want is a connector? Then I will supply one with lead for 5GBP If you require a quantity then We could talk about that as well.
hey there,

i have a gp32 io port project mostly completed sitting there waiting to be tested. I got disillusioned when i couldn't easily get a connector.

Can you msg me details on buying one (connector) from you?

I've made a ps2 -> serial interface. It's pretty over the top for what it is (uses a xilinx fpga), and could probably be a platform for other interfaces (there are alot of free luts left over on the spartan 2e). I planned to make the designs for the addon as public as possible once it's working (i used some copywritten IP - but i'm prolly aloud to distribute that as a 'black box'). I think i'm mostly there - it works to a PC serial port @ 9600 baud, but only for keyboards, I didn't get around to setting up stuff for a mouse.

awesome, thanks in advance.
