Psp V Gp32

The PSP will be useless, we wont be able to write media or play any homebrew stuff or emulators on it.

Shame its so long until they make the GP64.

If you dont know, they could easily make a handheld like never before.. but as always they hold their technology back at least a year before letting anyone know about it. Thats such a shame.. they would rather be greedy gits and get all the money from the current technology than bring us the future today.

N64 emulators playing on handhelds anyone?

it's common sense.

Gamepark can't afford to develop the GP64 at the moment, but if the euro launch goes well, who knows? I think Virgin will rollout to other euro nations if it sells well in the test countries, and thenGP can develop a new machine.

Does any one still believe the specs console makers publish pre-release? What are you, stupid or something?

I mean seriously, 7.1 sound on a handheld? Does this get you excited. Why do people just take this stuff and just run with it, without any sort of critical analysis at all.

My mates IPAQ has a CPU that goes up to 400MHz (variable speed stuff to improve battery life). The lithium ion battery pack lasts 6-8 hours, I think.

This PSP has 3 processors, plus a sound chip rated at 5 giga operations a second (whatever that means). Plus a mechanically driven media system (discs).

So 3 alternatives, as I see it:
1) The specs are true, but they have missed out two important specs: 30 minute battery life and the ability to fry eggs.
2) Sony have got their hands on alien technology, or a time machine.
3) The specs are a huge exageration or (less likely) a complete lie. They're not advertising this thing for sale at these specs, so they are not bound by any consumer protection laws. They can say whatever they want.

Now, I would just like to say, I think the PSP may well be a great machine, as long as the battery life is reasonable. I may get one. But I get extremely annoyed about people talking about these sort of specs as if they meant very much.

Why are you too bothered about sound?
Sound on a handheld matters for virtually FA with me since handhelds are made to be played in public areas where sound will annoy others.

That was my point: 7.1 sound, so you're going to be carrying around 7 speakers with you?

It's just sounds like silly spec pushing to me.

i wont spend 375€ for a handheld.. then 170€ for the gp32 were allready much :)
and then walk around with it.. its to expensive if i loose it.
and then its still a handheld for gaming. i cant to other things with it, hmm for so much i better get a PDA.

Hi well when it comes out in a year from now Im definetly going to buy it straight away! Its not ps1 capable its ps2 capable. That means it will be a portable ps2!
You'll be able to play Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice city on it, pro evolution soccer 3,
and now if that aint tempting then I dunno what is!

I will still have my GP32 and still want to develop for it when I get better at coding, but theres no harm in having both portable machines. Some people talk like it is a battle between these two machines just get them both cos they will both do different things for you, and if you cant afford to get both then start saving now you got a year!

i dont think it is ps2 compatible. isnt it a wee bit above the psone? the two machines are for differant things so i dont see any reason for comparison.

True....True. Looking back on this board i have realised that a lot of people are very aggresive about the psp. High digital quality films and quality games. The memory sticks will probably handle a lot of emus etc and most of the people are stuck too firmly to the GP32. Sure its a great console but it is no longer the best.

If a piece of better technology comes along why are you shunning it. You can always get both like carface said. GP32 is a homebrew scene, great, but it doesn't mean that the PSP will destroy the whole scene.

also i would like to see nintendo react to the threat. If you judge them by their last two consoles, i wouldn't like to see their odds for the handheld market.

Finally, all those people saying it is a pointless topic, then why did you write in it along with the other 50 people. We only wanted to know your opinions on these two great machines.

i doubt well see any emus for the psp for a longtime after release, sony will try there best to stop any amature developers getting things to run, you could end up having to mod the thing, which seems like a pain in the ass if you ask me. which you didnt. <_<

One reason Nintendo machines might be lacking power is battery life. I hope that doesn't get ignored when you guys are comparing GP32 with PSP when its out.

the gba is nowhere near on power with the psx, it doesnt even support 3d, please nobody start talkin about the n-gage (i actually know people who bought it).

You gotta remember... Sony is one of the Biggest Electrical / Technology Companies in the World... They Have the Brains and the Money to make them Specs All Possible...

The PSP will definatly be able to play games similar if not identical to early PS2 games. In fact there is a chance that some games may even look better. The smaller screen will always work in its advantage, and it has some other graphics hardware features like hardware Patches/Nurbs which could lend well to great graphics. I haven't looked into whether the graphics chipset supports multitexturing or not. If it does, this would improve graphics a lot as this was never supported in hardware on the PS2. That is one of the features the gamecube has over the PS2 that really shows.

incorrect, the polygon performance of the PSP is just slightly better than the actual PSX ( look up specs for proof ) They say in articles we'll get PS2 "LIKE" graphics.. meaning half as good and only better than PSX. That is still good, but the system will be way too expensive just like the stupid Ngage was.

by the time the PSP comes out there will be XBOX 2 ( next year ) and it probably wont cost much more either.. what would you buy? i know who i'm with, microsoft.

You are so incorrect, it's not funny. The PSone is only theoretically capable of drawing 360,000 flat, shaded, polygons/second. and only 180,000 texture mapped, Gouraud shaded polygons/second.

With PSP, they are talking about 33 million polygons/second. Obviously both these figures are pure thoretical maximums and will never be achieved in a real game, but even with that in mind, I think you can tell that the PSP is just slightly faster when it comes to polygons.
