There are many difference from the normal version and the 166 Mhz one?
It's better to buy normal FLU or the 166 non Flu?

a 166 can sure be overclocked to 166.. which is good for emus etc..
normal units may overclock.

The 166 guarantees you can play apps. like Snes and GPCinima (Movies) at a much improved speed. An example of this would be getting 13 frames per second and opposed to 24 frames per second, which makes a BIG difference.

Some units can overclock to 166 and some cannot. If you purchase a 166 unit, all that is, is a normal unit that is guaranteed to goto 166. If you purchase a non-166 unit, you take your chances and roll the dice and still may end up with a unit that goes to 166, or you may not.

As for FLU or no FLU, if your serious about using this system, you'll end up kicking yourself in the ass later if you dont a FLU. If I had to choose between non-166 FLU and a 166 without FLU. I would choose the normal one with FLU because chances are still good that it might hit 166 anyway.

If you dont want to spend a little extra $ on the guarantee of a 166 unit and want to leave it to chance, then I seriously wouldnt trust a site that offers 166's, chances are they weed out all of the units that clock to 166 for their 166 stock so you really wont get one by chance if you order the normal one. I would suggest looking into a site that doesnt make any distinction between them so you have a much higher chance of getting one that can overclock to 166.

But if you have the $ a little extra for the guarantee, is more than worth it.

a 166mhz garantee is garanteeing you can overclocking to 166, others i guess without teh garantee get the risk of a gp32 that cannot overclock, or stay long, on 166Mhz. i was lucky enough tog et one from Lik-Sang that stays on 166 perfectly *as far as i have seen*

Akuma no Houkon: That's a bit of misinformation you're spreading there... the GBAX "guaranteed" 166MHz GP32s have been modified according to my site, not "weeded out".

So, if you buy a guaranteed 166MHz GP32, you will get 166MHz. If you buy a non-guaranteed GP32, there is a 60% chance you will get 166MHz. If you buy from any other supplier, there is still a 60% chance you will get 166MHz.

I would got for the cheaper version with FLU, I happened upon a 166 from Lik-Sang but I've only used it once (just to test) but it only made my batteries last 2 hours. And the FLU is pretty neccessary because often the screen is darker than the GBA even tho the GP32 has better reflection

I am not spreading any misinformation, I didn't specify any particular site or store. My post was a general post and not written to discourage anyone from purchasing any model from any store. Personally, not just with GP32, but with other electronics that can be OC'ed (or any similar enhancement), I have noticed that stores tend to weed out the higher ones and sell those for more, its a common practice, something to be cafefull for.

I dont know if the sites that offer 166 GP32's do so by weeding them out or if they do it by some kind of modification. The site you refered to www.gbax.com does not say if they mod it (therefore killing any kind of manufacturers warrenty), or what, if they do mod it, legally they are required to inform you before the purchase is finalized that this is a modified product (usually in the form of a legal agreement), so you know that its not original and has no Manufacturers Warrenty.

Before you order from a place that modifies your hardware, be sure you contact the manufacturer and find out if your warrenty is still valid (it wont be), but its best to check with the official source. So you know what you are buying into.

Although in their defense, I have heard good things about the return policy that gbax has, but this doesnt legally excuse them from informing the purchaser that they are purchasing an unofficial modified product. (if it is indeed modified).

Since I got to the final page of ordering a GP32 from gbax and still didnt see any notification of modification, I therefore assume, that its not modified and they are weeding them out, otherwise they are in violation of law.

I haven't actually seen any other store's guaranteeing 166mhz GP32's besides GBAX, and I wouldnt say they're in violation of any laws (aside from invalidating the manufacturer's warrentee) they're simply providing a service just as any company that offers modchipping for game consoles.

Craig stated many times that he Mods the ones he guarantees.

They are not in violation of laws by modding them, thats legal, but they are selling modified products without telling to purchaser that it is indeed a modified product, That is illegal. if you sell anything used, refurbished, or modified in any way, then you are lawfully required to make notice to the purchaser that it is a modified/used/refurbished/etc... product and is no longer under the manufacturers warrenty. A simple notice "Product has been internally modified to enhance speed and is no longer under the offical manufacturers warrenty" on the order page would fix this.

Modchiping service is comletely different, everyone that takes their system in, is 100% aware that it is going to be modified and therefore break warrenty (thus the word MOD), and the systems you can preoder modded state in a nice long disclaimer that it is a modified product, but gbax doesnt advertise it as a mod in any way, even a simple MODDED word in the description would be enough, thats what most premodded consoles use.. Nothing they say from orderpage to checkout mentions that its not an offical product. As it should. The actual modifcation is completely legal.

Well possibly, but I also think of it as a special case, GamePark is a Korean company with few english speaking staff which means actually using the warrentee would have been a hairy situation, it'd be easier to deal directly with GBAX for repaires or replacement. So even if the original warrentee is invalid you still have some avenue for help.

Also Even though they might not state it they're forth comming about it aslong as you ask.

Do you email every online store you goto about every product you buy? Asking, "is this new?, is this moddifed in anyway?" etc..? I doubt that you do. And you shouldnt have to. Because of the law that requires companies to tell you if the product is not new in its original condition.

The law isnt skirted just because the manufacturer is in korea and dont speak much english.

Also, when looking for a place to buy a GP32, I had many sites in mind, I narrowed them down to gbax and lik-sang, price wise they were the betters. Now I saw "turbo charged" on one of the products, I looked arround, saw no official information about a turbo charged GP32, and the site didnt readily offer the information during purchase or checkout, so rather than waste time trying to email them and ask them, and figuring that if they dont want to explain to their customers what they are purchasing, they must not want my bussiness. So I purchased one at lik-sang, atleast there I know what I am getting.

I didn't think it was a mystery that I'm only refering to GBAX. I hadn't bothered to check other sites beyond whether they offered a guarantee like GBAX, in the end I purchased from Lik sang due to the price.

And I did say it felt like a special case to me, because frankly even if I did have a problem with it, the last place I'd try to seek help is at Gamepark because I KNOW it'd be next to impossible to have a clear dialog about my purchase.

Whether or not you personally took the time to ask them what "turbo charged" meant (which frankly I would have actually asked if I hadnt seen a post on this forum actually stating how it was "turbo charged"), they very likely would have told you. Sure they probably should tell you it's modded on their site, but it's still the customer's responsibility to research their purchase.

Actually you are wrong, its considered misleading advertisement if they do not tell you if a product is used, refurbished, or modified in some way, there are LAWS that make this true. This law applies to the UK and Korea as well as the US.

I dont have to argue this, no matter what your views on this is, it is illegal, plain and simple, even if you dont care, its still illegal, and I DO care, I will just email craig and tell him to fix it. I dont think it will be a big problem to add a notice or a simple MOD word to the title of the object.

I almost purchased a GP32 from gbax not knowing I was going to buy a modded product without warrenty, I would have been severly pissed off had I purchased it and found out later.

Where was I wrong? Am I not entitled to my own opinions?

Read my posts, I never said he shouldn't have stated they were modded and I even agreed that they probably should tell you.

And I'll repeat it here:
Sure they probably should tell you it's modded on their site, but it's still the customer's responsibility to research their purchase.

All I said was he's been upfront with people here on the forum when they acutally asked. You could have saved the last few posts by simply sending the email you're apparently JUST getting around to rather than arguing about it here.

You did what is you right to buy it from someplace else if you didnt trust the way they represented themselves.

Sure they probably should tell you it's modded on their site, but it's still the customer's responsibility to research their purchase.

It is the customers responsiblity to research the item they are buying, yes, but if the store doesnt TELL YOU what you are buying, then how can you research it? Do a lookup for Turbo Charged GP32 and all you get is gbax's site. No way to do research on a product that doesnt officially exist. You could email them and await a reply, but you shouldnt have too, legally they need to advertise "what" it is. Its the stores responsiblity to advertise in a clear manner and tell you what you are purchasing. There are laws in this too. You can look them up, its not too hard.

Dude, You're prooving my argument for me because thats exactly what I'm talking about!

Nothing says you HAVE to buy a GP32 from GBAX! You looked at their offer, you didn't like what you saw, and you went someplace else, this is how being a consumer WORKS. That you didn't chose to email them dosen't matter it would still have been an avenue to explore before giving them your money.

If i go to buy a camera from a store I dont base my purchase on the sign the have next to it, I ask questions I check prices with outher stores, i ask other that have purchased it if it were a lemon or not.

And I dont have to look these rules up because you stated them 4 times and I never dissagreed with you.

That doesnt make it legal. Just because you do not *HAVE* to buy from them, doesnt make their practices legal. They are still in violation, that is what we are talking about.

You are arguing a point that I am not even talking about, I am talking about misleading advertisement and laws, not about choices. :)

thats what YOU're talking about. Yeah I said I didnt think they were violating any laws but you corrected me by stated the laws and I didnt say you were wrong did I?
