Help me out guys, I am pulling my hair out trying to get DOTT & Monkey Island to work.

I have SC132MHZ installed fine along with a variety of emulators and demos and I am trying to copy the files from the CD version of DOTT and the FD version of Monkey Island.

1. I get a communications error when I try I try to copy TENTACLE.001 on to the GP32. I have tried copying from the CD, staging it on a hard disk, copying it on to the GP32 and putting the Smartmedia in to the digital camera and uploading using the camera's faster connection. All fail part way through. Most recently I have tried a different SMC and get exactly the same error

2. As I have the CD version of DOTT the MONSTER.SOU file is massive, should I forget about sound or try to get hold of the file from the FD version?

3. I picked up the FD copy of Monkey Island at a boot sale, it copies on to the GP32 fine and runs OK but then displays the History Quiz which I guess is the copy protection - the doc for this seems to be the only thing missing from the box - can I get this from somewhere?

1) Which version of PC-Link are you using? 1.3 Is the latest, 1.2 has worked fine for me in the past.

It's always possible that either the GP32 or your cable is fault somewhere.

2) The current version of GP32 ScummVM will not work with the CD MONSTER.SOU file. a later version should include the recent PC SCUMMVM code hich compresses MONSTER.SOU using MP3 algorithms to a much smaller file.

3) There are three versions of The Secret of Monkey Island. the EGA floppy, VGA floppy and VGA CD versions. EGA floppy is not properly compatible with SCUMMVM, which might be causing problems. If you have the VGA version, then entering ANY date will bypass the protection (as the SCUMMVM developers did not implement the protection). Hold the R trigger and push up on the stick to enter the date "0123" & pass the protection.

Excellent news, they are both now working. :D

Monkey Island was just a case of clicking through the copy protection - thanks for the tip directhex.

The file copy problem with DOTT was my USB hub - connecting direct to the PC the file copied first time.
