Will a GP32 32MB upgrade result in

It'd mainly just mean that larger ROMs could be loaded for emulators of systems like the Neo-Geo MVS, CPS-1, GBA, etc., but said systems probably won't ever be emulated by the GP32 at a playable speed in the first place.

It will, but only if the emualtor is optimised to take advantage of the extra RAM.

Extra RAM of won't increase speed of the GP32 at all, but it would allow 'bigger' systems to be emulated.

I don't see why Neo-Geo/CPS1 etc. could not be done with/if the extra ram available, they are only 68000 based, what we need is an ASM based 68000 core.

I realy dont think the 32MB Ram upgrade will take off... I dont think theres enough people interested in Upgrading which means theres not much point for the developers to make 2 different emulators, One for Standard GP32's and one for 32MB Upgraded GP32's... hhhmmm

I would try the upgrade if someone sends me a GP32 and the 32MB Chip :D hehe..

The whole transaction seems obvious and isn't too complicated to do the actual soldering, but I'm only just wondering if there's anything I can try with when I'm done? Surely, improved ROM sizes won't make much of a difference.

If somebody would be willing to modify GP32s with 32MB of RAM and then resell them, I bet it could take GP32 gaming to a new level.

i would definately (well...when i say definately) send my gp32 off to get an upgrade if someone offered to do it. It would be better if it was someone from this board though, so i knew i could trust them to get it back to me in one piece

Have a look on the page about the mod. Coders dont need to make two versions of their emulator/game. It can just detect if it has the 32mb or not, and allocate memory accordingly

Neo-Geo uses a 68000 8Mhz main cpu, then a 4Mhz z-80 co-processor. Add to that a graphics chip with support for unlimited scrolling backgrounds and intense scaling as well as transparency. Also, it has a 15-voice sound chip.

Compare this to the snes which just have a ~3Mhz processor, it can barely be emulated with a lot of work. It is no wonder you need a 2Ghz PC to emulate to neo-geo well.
