Yeah, I know there's Phantasy Star, but I really don't know many other RPGs for Genesis. I know the Genesis isn't known for its RPGs, but I was wondering if anybody knew of a few good ones for it.

And please, no crap about 'Genesis sucks! Play SNES for RPGs!' or any other kind of SNES RPG praising.

the shining force series is meant to be good. But to be honest the snes was far superiour rpg wise. Id say the genesis is probably better knwn for its platformers, u really notice the clockspeed difference between the snes and the genesis in these games. I was in a small shop in Farnborough(town in UK) once andthey had some genesis RPG with a price tag of 150 quid. Cant remember what game it was though, i was just suprised a 2nd hand video game could sell for that much collectors item or not.

I asked 'Please no SNES RPG praising'. I understand the SNES had a wider selection of classic RPGs, was just wondering what people knew of the Genesis RPG collection. Not trying to hate on the SNES, it's just that there's already a thread on it.

Definitely try Landstalker. It's like an isometric Alundra, but far better. (there's a sequel on SNES, but it isn't translated...)

Admittedly it is lacking...so I guess you kinda have to fiddle around til you find something you like. Sword of Vermillion is often praised but I can't stand it. Ditto the Shining Force games (they're more strategy than RPG, anyway). Come to think of it, I think even the SMS had more RPG's than the Genesis...Wonderboy in Monster World is often thought of as a RPG also, but it's also platformer. Everyone loves it, I think. Actually, I think the Sega CD even had more RPG's. Rent-A-Hero might be a RPG, but there's no finished translation and it's one of those games that NEEDS one. Super Hylide is a RPG, but it's on NES too as Hylide 3 I think...Sorcerian is loved in Japan, but not on Megadrive...there's The Story of Thor. I forgot that one. That's in english, too. I never played it much but it's well liked (perhaps only cos' it's a RPG on Genesis...). That's all I can think of, sorry.

Seriously though, Phantasy Star 2 and 4 are great. 3 is okay, but 1, 2 and 4 would stack up to be one of the greatest RPG series' of all time. If because of nothing else, it's because 2 had an ending worth seeing - a rare quality in RPG's if you ask me. It seriously changes the way you look at the whole series...

EDIT: I forgot to mention PS3 has 4 endings, and some of them make it even more...of a paradox. I guess.

Cool, thanks for shedding some light on some others. I was also thing of finally playing syndicate or shadowrun (though I don't know if they can be saved on my memory or not. But I am a huge fan of Wonder Boy in Monster World. There really isn't anything quite as fun as that to me. I wish there were more like it. Hell, it wwould be cool to see Wonder Boy VS. Zelda in a game now that SGEA is totally third party. Hmm... I think I'm going to have to e-mail them about that one.

I forgot spiritual warfare. I know it's on NES too, but the mapper is kinda not supported by much at all and probably doesn't run in LJ or anything. It's just like a religious legend of zelda. It can provide amusement, especially if you're twisted.

Y's III was on SNES and SMS too. I know it isn't dumped on SMS, but I swear I rented it and then later found a guide for the SNES version which was 1/1 the same...

Fatal Labyrinth is bad, I hear. Uncharted Waters 2 is a SRPG, one of those koei games. The Story of Thor and Beyond Oasis are the same. Addams Family Values, I think, is like Fester's Quest on NES - it's a zelda type game.

Just bringing it up to speed ;P

Yeah, the one I like best on the Genesis is actually Crusaders of Centy (I confused it with Beyond Oasis) :)

Yeah, that's basically Zelda on Genesis, not bad, though I can't really get to the part where you learn how to jump.

EDIT: Doh, I didn't know you had to start playing the rest of the game after that.
