Problem Installing GP32 NPE...

The installation for NPE (Windows Explorer/PC-Link replacement) states the following for installation:

To install:
- regsvr32 gpcomsrv.dll
- regsvr32 gp32nse.dll

When I try to execute the first command, it comes back stating that it can't find the gpcomsrv.dll. I've doublechecked the spelling and I've tried specifying the full path to where the file is. Nothing seems to work.

Anyone run into this?

FYI, I'm running Windows 2000.

I had (and maybe still have) that problem. I did get it to register, but I had to copy the DLL's into a more obvious path - I I put them in \windows\ system32, then they registered, & I think I did it in a different order (ie regsvr32 the second file first, and vice versa).

However - I haven't then been able to make the GP32 show up in My Computer or file manager, and I thought that was the purpose of this. I have Win2k and his replacement USB driver so please anyone else, can they help more than I can ? Please? :D

Sorry I cant be more specific or helpful !

Firstly:

You -have- to put the .dlls in a windows system directory, Windows doesn't automagically find them - in your case windows\system32 is fine.

Secondly:

Why did you do it in reverse order? :( I think that's why you've had the problem. Do a regsvr32 /u blah.dll on both to uninstall them, then reinstall the correct order.
Also: you have to restart your computer first
Also: your gp32 has to be on, connected and possibly in pc-link mode.

If you've done all that and it still doesn't work ... sorry, I can't help :(

Yes, I've put the files in \winnt\system32. I've tried with and without full path reference. I also tried rebooting and connecting GP32 (in PC-Link mode). I still get stuck on the first file.

The message I get is:

"LoadLibrary ("c:\winnt\system32\gpcomsrv.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found."

Any additional thoughts?

Thanks

Good news. I got it working!

I was finally able to get out to the website for NPE and saw there was a link for an additional dll. No mention of what it was for but since it was on the NPE page, I decided to try it.

So I downloaded the file (msvcr70.dll), copied it to system32 directory and rebooted. After rebooting I was able to do the regsvr32 commands with no problem.

And it was definitely worth the effort, since this allows me to transfer files without using the PC-Link app.

Looks like I may have gotten ahead of myself. Is it possible to copy files between PC and GP32 at this point?

The reason I ask is I'm unable to do so and reading the features list in the readme file doesn't make mention of this.

I had the same hassle, did all the installs fine, but then you find you cant actually copy to the GP32 (unless someone knows otherwise) making the whole thing completely pointless

mores the pity, i hate PC Link (hate explorer type windows  )

Bonks

The discouraging part is when you look on the website, it says the current development status is 'inactive' (or something like that). Anyone know if this tool will continue to be enhanced? It's got great potential!
