Im looking into buying a GP32 trying to decide whether to buy one with or without a built in light and the last thing i need to know is how easy it is to use with a mac as that is what i have
if anyone has any information i would be v greatful

funny... :)
its exactly the same thing that im wondering....
i was gonna buy a gp32... and now... i dont know if the 50 more dollars are worth it for the light version...
and i have a mac :) lol

i was wondering if it was possible to just put the emulator and rom directly in the smart media cart with a reader...
like a hard drive... or is it an obligation tu use the gameparkprogram with the gp32 hooked thru usb port....

i hope its possible to just use the smart media card.

but i know i need to hook up at least one time the gp32 to a pc to do the registrations thing and download the freeloader.... or is it possible with a mac ?

thanks... :)

Well, I don't have a Mac so I can't answer these questions too well, but here goes.

1) http://www.gp32x.de/gp32download.php?do_w...ectfolder&id=41 is a link to a page on this site with some Mac utilities, looks like a command line PC-Link type app is there, but it doesn't look too promising for day to day use. So, you MAY have to have at least temporary access to a PC to register your GP32 and get the freelauncher. Or, go to #gp32 on efnet (IRC) and type !applist, follow the directions.

2) Once you get freelauncher loaded, yes, you can just copy files to and from the SMC using an reader. The two catches: 1) you'll need to manually create the directory structure normally created by "formatting" the SMC card in PC-Link and 2) .fpk files will need to be unpacked and have the individual items put into their directories. This isn't a problem for very many apps, but in general will make your experience a bit more confusing.

Now, someone please correct me and give a link with a bunch of Mac programs where everything works easily. But, at least you should be able to use your GP32!

I'd recommend the following to make things easy:

Get the GP32 and use someones PC to format the SMC & set up the gp32, then a normal SMC reader/writer to use it from then on, however remember that when using MP3's the built in player expects certain TAG settings that when using the gp32 SMC rw it automaticly sorts out.

But everything else works fine with an SMC reader writer, i know, because i use one :)
