PyKaraoke is a karaoke player which supports the CDG (MP3+G, OGG+G) and MIDI (.KAR, .MID) formats. We have just successfully ported PyKaraoke 0.5 to the GP2X, allowing you to put your karaoke songs in your pocket and take the show on the road. In fact, this quite possibly makes the GP2X the world's first fully self-contained handheld karaoke machine (though you'll have to provide your own amp if you insist on singing into a microphone). I have taken my GP2X camping, for karaoke around the campfire. With your GP2X and a TV-out cable, you can turn any house party into a karaoke party.

Visit here to find out more about what a CDG or MP3+G file is. In short, CDG is the format of professional karaoke CDs. These CDs can be ripped to your hard disk, and turned into a .mp3 file together with a .cdg file. This player gives you the ability to play those mp3+cdg files.

For more information on PyKaraoke, visit its home page at http://www.kibosh.org/pykaraoke/ . Or, just download the GP2X binary from SourceForge, here, which has everything you need to get started except the karaoke song files themselves, which you must obtain elsewhere.

lol... this ain't the german board, buddy. We people from Texas don't like these crazy talkin' German city-folks ;-) this is man's country... no room for krauts...

Seriously, this is what I have been waiting for. Queen + Karaoke on my gp2x. YES!!!

You can read this document, which includes, among other things, advice on where to buy legitimate MP3+G files. It's also conveniently available in German (follow the link).

From the English version of the above quoted article:
To build up your collection of karaoke tracks, you can either buy CD+G disks and rip
them to MP3+G format, or you can buy or download them from the Internet.
If your CD/DVD player supports CD+G disks, you can use cdgtools under Linux to rip
the tracks to MP3+G files. CD+G disks are available from many online retailers such as
http://www.shopkaraoke.com, as well as from some high street shops. Once you have
ripped the disks to MP3+G format, you can play the songs directly from your hard disk
using PyKaraoke.
Alternatively there are some online retailers offering downloadable MP3+G files. See
http://www.tricerasoft.com for a good example. From sites like this you can download the
files already in MP3+G format and play them directly using PyKaraoke.
I don't know of anyone who is selling licensed karaoke files in .kar (MIDI) format. Many of these are created by fans who have no way to license them from the original songwriters anyway.
