i just recently got a gp2x and it dropped it. my battery compartment is busted i think. the bottom battery fits in fine but it seems that on the + side of the top battery slot has a little chip. is there anything i can insert there or anyplace i can go to get something to get it to reach out just a little more so the battery stays in place? any help greatly appreciated

Without seeing the extent and type of damage it's hard to say, is the little metal plate still in place on the + side of the top battery?

yes, here i'll upload some pictures i took earlier, sorry i couldn't post them before

As far as I can see, it looks like it's going to need a touch of the old soldering iron treatment, if you don't know how to do it , take it to someone that knows, it'll be a very cheap repair in any case :)

The battery likely would stay in if you bent the other side clip out a bit, I had to when I dropped mine, I did it with my fingernail.

I would check to insure that there is still metal connecting it into the circuit board and that the piece you lost is not rattling around in there, otherwise if it does play, it won't for long.

I would see if I could send it back for repair, they should fix it, and even if they charge you it shouldn't be prohibitive.

I am looking for a strap now that I have dropped it myself, I also need protection when I loan it to the younger siblings (11-13) to shut em up on car rides.

unfortunately, i think it might take a little bit more than that. it looks like theres a bit more going on behind the working part. like theres a little place for everything. i dont really know how this battery setup works, but do you think the chipping of the metal with effect the way the compartment itself works? god dammit

If you think that it's more serious than what we think it is, you should get it sent back for service, it'll be cheap and certainly cheaper than an experiment gone wrong :) .

Yeah, best case you send it back, it gets fixed, you start using a wrist strap and it never happens again (I myself need to get a wrist strap, a $200 device deserves a $5-10 precaution.)

I know it is hard to do, it is right there and almost usable, but it is the best course open too you, and I am afraid we can't help you much more, maybe if you moved your camera away so it could focus and illuminated the picture with a light bulb or sunlight it would help us to help you.
