In2x

Trying to get this to work ... keep getting dumped back to the main menu after selecting a rom ...

I kept getting dumped back into the menu as well. Until that is I made the 4-tris game crash somehow. Then, I selected Burgertime and it worked...in monochrome that is. Sound is very good, but I would consider the emulator 99% unplayable at the moment, as it is near impossible to get to the point of selecting a game. And no colors kind of stinks too.

Hopefully everything gets fixed. I was pretty excited about this one today.

You must chose RENDER MODE= FIT and the color will be ok!
In LOAD ROM menu, when you chose a game, press x or b for 1sec then wait and press R1 (reset). Sometimes it work better.
A big problem is if you press some diagonals the games are very slow!!!

I did get it to work, but man does the menu have a mind of its own! SOmetimes it just backs out of the load rom screen for no reason, the menus sometimes move way to quickly, and just trying to change the render mode to "fit" was nuts. BUT, I did get a game (Donkey Kong) to work, and it is impressive for a first release. Graphics and sound seem to be right on the mark.

The emulator itself functions great, but the method of game load needs to be fixed, and the menus have to be fixed. THis can turn out to be one hell of an emulator with some work from what I have seen.

Ah Intellivision... what fun that machine was (one of about 3 consoles I've actually owned). Must mention to my uncle that this has been released (even if it is in a slightly awkward state at the mo); methinks he'd be very interested indeed....

The emulator was tested....until I decided to make a couple of last minute changes before release. oops.

I've uploaded 0.2a now - which should fix most of the problems. Although I will admit that it does still occasionally crash if you change games

Would it be possible to add another screen scale mode option for an even 2:1 pixel doubling? The "fit" mode with its fractional scaling causes weird scrolling effects and uneven pixels. Look at the "ladders" in burger time. Some are 3 pixels thick, others 2 pixels thick. The 2:1 mode would make them all 2 pixels thick and would look cleaner when scrolling.

Very good emulator. I haven't tried the updated version yet, will do tomorrow.

Findings so far:

1) Menu is not easy to navigate, but easy to get used to it.
2) Diagonals work with standard Left+Up=diagonal, etc (so my home-made D-pad still works beautifully with diagonals in games like Disks of Tron for example!)
3) Emulator runs nearly full speed on 240Mhz (via menu) - can this be increased to 250Mhz/260Mhz for perfect speed?
4) Got a number of games to play, not Blackjack and Poker though. Only tried a few games so far.

Gameplay:

The Intellivision had the 9 keys on the keypad which of course we don't have on the GP2x. This makes many games unplayable unfortunately. Comments so far per game:

Blackjack and Poker - doesn't work
Skiing - works fine, but you can only select "1" as option (by A key) so 1 player, slope 1, game 1 only. B button allows you to jump the snow mounds.
Lock'N'Chase - works fine, B key to close doors after you
NTL Hockey - plays fine, but can't play against computer - opposition is not active
Disks of Tron (always liked this game) - can only fire with the A key (one diagonal only) - this game would be usable if the player moved with the A,Y,B,X buttons and the joystick controlled the direction of fire (for example)

Any chance of a list of games we can play now, fine; a list of ones which can be played with a little key-assigning tweaking, and a list of totally unplayable ones (due to Intellivision keypad control).

Suggestions:

1) Ability to assign all the keys on the GP2x to specific Intellivision keys; per game, independently.
2) List of what Intellivision keys are called for the .cfg file - so we can alter the .cfg file to re-assign GP2x keys to other Intellivison keys.

Very promising emulator, thanks. :) Keep up with the updates please!

On the menu there's an option called Keyboard, this allows you to assign keys. It *should* work, although I haven't tested it all that much.

There is also an on-screen 9 button virtual keypad - which also doesn't work well :D Early days though boys and girls.

Doesn't work yet, allows assigning keys, but not saving them. Interestingly enough though, the option for loading a keyboard seems to be there! Looking forward to this feature!

Is oj for me.
I loaded Adv dungeons and dragons and I assigned keys I want.
I saved and all is ok. When I play it a load the configuration key file for this game.
The only problem is that there are so many keys to use that also a virtual keyboard is needed.

I had expected a .cfg file with the saved keys (thereby when you save an alternative set, it overrides the default ones) - only .cfg file was the basic one with the config options on the main menu - which is no doubt why I can't save keyboard assigned keys as there is no file to replace...

Can you post the whole contents of your .cfg file and its name please, so I can copy it and use it on my system - hopefully I can then save the Keyboard settings (which I can't at the moment).

Yes, the game you refer to uses many of the keys on the Intellivision system - more keys than we have on the GP2x. Some game play without this issue, Astrosmash, Lock'N'Chase, Skiing, etc. They are playable.

I want to assign keys so I can play Discs of Tron in particular - my D-pad gives me 8 directions for the gameplay (great, otherwise the game would not be playable); I will have to assign the A,B,X,Y buttons for shooting, ignoring shooting discs at diagonals (not enough keys on the GP2x) - this will make it playable though, and I really like this game - it is fun.

this is the file saved for dungeons and dragon I use to play.
Copy it in kbd directory. however if this configuration is perfect in the dungeon, in the map screen you can't use diagonals (1-3-7-9)!
You must change some keys if you need in this part of the game.
Remember the rom and the file must have the same name.

P.s.
I just finished the game! Perfect emulation!

Thanks for the file - what are the codes for what does what on the Intellivision keyboard file, so I can change them to what I want please?

Ok, buggered up the download a little, but 0.3a is up http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,5,1607

adds DaveC's 2:1 mode with his graphic for the VPad.

I've also (hopefully) fixed overclocking and screenshot mode.

For the keypad press Start to show it, joystick to move and any face button to select. Pressing start again will cancel it.

This has no doubt added more bugs :)
