Well hi guys, hope you won't mind me posting this here. I've been searching around on these forums, and used the user guide with the cd, and used google...but not much help.
I would be very grateful if somebody could help me install an emulator and get a couple games running?
Maybe you have some links somewhere?
Am I supposed to copy the files off the cd and put them onto the sd card? I have tried lots of things, and all games give me black screens...I don't even know where to put them :(

So please, I am really hoping somebody out there could give me a hand here?
I would be most grateful to you guys!

Many thanks

I'm not familiar with the CD you got, mine came with none. Anyway, any software you want would be better to download so you make sure to get the correct version. The site is here: http://www.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi

Start with a homebrew game, unzip the archive you download to the SD card. Go into the "games" section on your GP2x & navigate to the folder you extracted the .zip file to, then run the .GPE file. The homebrew game should load.

Emulators are harder for a major newbie. You need rom files (the games) & you need to put them into the correct place. The info for that is in the documentation included with each emulator. ALWAYS read the text files first.

Here's a couple of sites that may help you:

http://newbie.gp32x.de/gpx2/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GP2X

That's about as much as I can help you with - without more information about what you're trying to run, how you're running it, etc...

good luck

Alright, thanks for the links man :D

Still having problems with emulators, the problem being I have no idea what to do with them. The readme's don't help much either, some general pointing in the right direction wouldn't go amiss :)

PS: It was a copied cd with things on, not in the box but in the postage envelope it all came in.

Mate, you have to be more specific with your questions. Which emulators are you having trouble with, and how do you have them set up currently?

There are a bunch of different things that could be wrong... some emus won't take zipped roms, some need them in a certain directory, some need a bios file, etc.

Welcome to the board and hopefully you'll be playing emus shortly :D

Well let's say I wanted to setup this emulator.

http://m.peponas.free.fr/gngeo/download/gngeo2x_0.6.12.zip
(should work)

I have no idea where to start. I've read readmes, but they all want me to do different things, and it confuses me <_<

Also, do you make a seperate folder for ROM's? Or are they supposed to go somewhere in the emulator folder?
Say I was trying to run a metal slug game, let's say.

Thanks for your time guys :D

How about I just send you zip pack of the emulators and so on already setup and working? I won't include any roms though of course. Expect a PM shortly :)

Thanks for the link man! I have got the neo geo emulator working.
I am not so sure about the others though, they have some lists in them, do they mean they can only play those games?

The Megadrive emulator works perfectly, same with the Nes emulator (although I couldn't get it to save). The Snes one is a bit iffy with some games, and there are speed issues, but those issues are being worked on I think. :)

All i did was rely on a good readme, the first thing i installed was drmd. Just unzip the emu where you want it and can find it, and then read the readme. If you don't like the readme find a diff emu.

The nes gpfce emu has a good readme and so does drmd, just learn to install those and other ones are super similar

Here's a newbie-setup question: To get certain SDL games working - what copy of SDL do we install on our GP2X's? The Archive has 6 flavors.

Edit: Duh... I've read about static libs versus the danger of overwriting what the GP2X has, why did I even ask this question? I'll let the philosophers decide.

I'm pretty sure that most application/game/emulators that use sdl are compiled statically. so you don't have to install any libs.

For gngeo, a little mini howto:
- unzip the gngeo zip on your sd card in a directory, no matter its name.
- find "somewhere" the following bios files : uni-bios.rom, 000-lo.lo, sfix.sfx, and put them in the "roms" folder
- then, put your roms in the roms folder too.

hope it's help.
