Hi all,

I'm debating the merits of scoring one of the GP2xs that Lik-Sang are off loading before stocking the mk2.

I'm hesitant though, cuz for a $30 saving I'll still need to fix the joystick myself, and there's the screen change.

I'm wondering, is the new style screen any better or worse for things like reading text, or viewing still images?

I'm probably going to end up with a bunch of ebooks on mine, when I get it, and I'd rather get whichever is going to be easier on the eyes.

Can anyone clue me in? I don't suppose someone has taken photos to illustrate the difference beween the interlaced and non-interlaced screens?

I'm really tempted, but as I said, $30 isn't much of a saving, especially when I see the hordes of people in the stick threads saying how they'll send their machines back if a new version comes out with the problems fixed.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Felix

Craigix has a 2x with the new screen but prefers the original ones, but I guess some people will just love them, and some people will hate them. Apparently the new screen is a little on the "overbright" side, which DaveC refers to as "washed out colors".

I seem to remember him posting in a thread that after using the new screen for a while he was getting used to it, that it wasn't worse, just different.

Be good to hear his opinion after a few days.

I like the new screen now, it took some getting used to the GP32 BLU style screen again, the black and other dark colours seem a lot more dark on it and the light colours a lot more light. I'm sure daveC will have an opinion on this.

I'd say wait for the new version, i've also noticed that after going back to the old GP2X the joystick fix is certainly noticable in the new one, it's a lot better.

I'd say wait for MK2, or wait until people start posting Mk2 reviews then you will get a wide opinion.

Thanks for the reply man, do you think the blurriness you originally noticed would be irritating for reading text?

I've never seen a GP32 of any kind, so I'm not really sure what the difference would be.

The joystick is definitely a tempting reason to wait, though, but I'm not really afraid of doing a bit of modding- a d pad would probably be a nicer alternative in the long run for me.

I don't suppose you have any idea when the rest of the suppliers are getting their Mk2s? So far it's only gbax.co.uk that are definitely getting them any time soon, right?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, I'm itching to buy one.

I wouldn't sell the original stick short just yet. Personally I have never understood what all the "hub-bub" about the stick is all about. I have never found the stick to be uncomfortable or unresponsive, and I play Metal Slug all the time (a lot of crouching and shooting at all angles). Now it could just be the fact that I got a PSP before I got my Gp2x, which has a similar, but even smaller stick. I did find the PSP stick uncomfortable at first, but just got used to using the middle part of my thumb instead of the tip, and then had no problems. So when I did finally get my Gp2x, I just automatically played with the middle part of my thumb, and found it totally "playable." I mention all this because in your first post you seem to take for granted that you would have to change the stick on a Gp2x if you get one, and I just feel that that may not be the case, and thus should not be a reason to base your decision on. Just my 2 cents worth, H.G.

Thanks Hired Gun.

I know these things tend to be subjective. I'm having a hard time containing my desire to place an order, tbh. Bought batteries, a charger and an SD card on Ebay yesterday. ;)

I'd love me some Metal Slug.. heh.

Yeah if you could, Craig, that would be awesome.

Not much help for me though, I just placed my order for a Mk1.
