Wifi/wlan Connection Works Very Well

Could we just have battery powered WiFi?

Perhaps GPH could make one, or some determined dev...

Right now you need a PSU. If you would have read the whole post you would know that it works well without one. You just need a good mobile solution which does not exist yet.

OK, guys I'll make a video to prove it. First I have to recharge my batteries for my Digicam and my GF will arrive very soon, too. So I will make it ~ 22:00 GMT+1. But I WILL post it today. This was 7 hours of work yesterday and I dont want people ask if I'm a liar or not.

Hey Emu&Co...todays ending in 10 minutes for me.....no sorry 9 minutes 57 seconds... we're waiting for the vid!...9 minutes 45 seconds...

OmarNawaz: Yes.

Minkster: Yes, provided you have drivers for the card compiled for the GP2X. However the only available drivers for Linux are completely closed-source. So, in short, no.

What if you have a wireless LAN router, what would you pick instead of Ad-Hoc?

wouldn't that be the same situation as its now?

Actually, while we're talking about a mobile solution for WIFI, I wonder if someone who knows about hardware/ electronics (I know practically nothing, alas :() could answer a few questions? I don't think I've seen either of them asked/ answered elsewhere.

1) How hard would it be to use the GP2X's batteries to power a USB device? Is there enough power available to power a USB w-fi device? How hard would it be to wire it up? How much empty space is available inside a GP2X?

Here's some specs for a USB wi-fi stick - I chose this model as I own one and it has open-source (ralink rt2570) drivers:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ASUS-WL-167G-USB-2-w...1QQcmdZViewItem

Power is rated as "350-450mw in transmission mode", and is apparently adjustable.

2) Has anyone ever hacked open one of these USB wifi sticks and seen just how much is casing/ empty space? Are the internals of the stic the kind of size and shape that could be "spread around" inside whatever empty space is available inside a GP2X?

Cheers! :)

Nooooo, it looks like I fucked up my Windows XP WLAN configuration. It still finds the GP2X, but it does not respond to anything anymore. Help me, what did I do....

My Tripod Account stinks, ah btw, IP problem fixed, my PC was the problem
So movie is too much for my connection, but 15 pics should be enough, too. Anybody left who thinks I'm a liar? :p

Is there some way a n3wb at this could do it? I'm 100% interested and 1% experienced... If someone could gimme a detailed post about how to do this... I'd love to give it a try! Also, is there a way I could use the USB plug to go online with my GP2x? What do I need to do so? (software instructions please :D )

-Thanx

if I where you I would either wait some time, or download a bootable linux cd first and try to get wifi working with that (try backtrack). Wifi on linux is not really the easiest thing to do.

How about WEP & WPA support? I've never gotten WPA to work on any Linux box..

Let me get a new computer first... let me just say that my GP2x runs much better than my PC >_< it suxxorz!

(I am in the process of getting new PC parts... and I'm planning on putting Linux on it. Have any suggestions for a dummy-proof linux?)

nVidia > ATI

don't expect anything to work perfect, but nVidia has good drivers if you are going to use linux for 3D stuff
