Just seen this GP2X for sale at http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/search.do?productCode=GPXGAM

What got my attention was the bit where it says:-

A selection of games such as Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Vektar, Beneith a Steel Sky are already installed on the console.
....!!!! WTF..?

Would that be in the new larger internal memory...?

Also I can't see it properly, but is that the new thumb stick on the GP2X.

Also sounds like it has firmware version 2.0 on it.

I also found out that when you go through the checkout enter the code "SPEOFF6" and it gives you 40% in vouchers (About £48 !!) to use against your next order !!

Batman2.

It's just a new cap on a Gp2X. But it's nice to have it when you'll order it.
Like for the Fw 2.0.
For the pre-installed stuff, I think it's coming with an Sd card fulled by those, or a Cd.

By larger internal memory, he meant the NAND, not the RAM, which was never supposed to change. I think the jury is still out on that question... I suspect it may very well have more NAND storage.

The 2.0 beta firmware does install some games to NAND (only 2 though if I remember correctly).

However, Craigix did mumble something about the size might be increased though a few months back simply due to the fact that 64MB is becoming less common now, and therefore becoming pretty much the same price as higher capacity chips.

If this is the case, then it would be sensible to use this nand for installing games to and whatever, so you have something to play with immediately after receiving the 2x.

What's the deal with the new caps anyway? Can existing owners buy a new cap seperately. Sorru if this is covered elsewhere.

Yes, of course, but DaveC appears to have stopped producing them temporarily.

There will be a new official cap shortly.

That cap looks an aweful lot like DaveC's...

It certainly looks like indestructable Nylatron GS™ ...

Bugger me though, at least iwantoneofthose.com have a useable TV-out cable !! They at least supply an extension and a connector so you can actually use the damn thing. The GBAX one cost me loads, and then a further £20 to get it sorted. I feel I was well ripped off by the cable, and hence I'm leaving my GP2X for a while so I don't feel so much animosity towards it !!!!!!!

Don't jump to conclusions based on a picture. They might show an extension cable, but there's no mention of it anywhere in the description or features.

It is identical to my cap. Either GPH lifted the design verbatim, or they just took a picture of a unit that happened to have my cap on it.

craigix posted that he sent them a unit with your cap already on it ... somewhere, I forgot the topic.

Yes, sorry for the misunderstanding. So, the Nand is like a rom ?
But do you think they'll ship the unit with the Nand filled by games and stuffs ?

NAND is, I believe, a form of EEPROM (electronicly eraseable, programable read-only memory). It is a non-volatile form of memory (i.e. it doesn't lose information when you cut power. You can write a file to it without erasing everything because it is broken up into smaller blocks; the block is erased and the new data is then written to the block.

I think SD cards are a form of portable NAND memory (or perhaps NOR). The GP2X also has built in 64MB of NAND memory for the firmware and any data you want to keep there. The rumors concern upgrading this memory to 128 or 512MB.

It is possible they will ship the unit with games. They must be shareware versions of quake, duke3d, etc. unless they purchased a proper liscence, or they are just putting the engines that can be downloaded from the file archive anyway. Many of the homebrew titles they could also conceivebly put on the NAND before shipping without legal trouble.

That's definately DaveC's cap, as this is NOT GPH's new cap (I've seen it already).

So, I would be careful ordering from them... :/
