Squidgeengine Freaks Out My Gp2x

When I try to run SquidgeEngine, most often in the initialization screen the display corrupts and the machine crashes. Sometimes I can get through that screen, select a rom and start playing. But after a short while the screen will corrupt and crash again.

I just got this thing the other day so it's never worked well. I have this problem with the 1.1 and 1.4 firmware. The NES emulator and Atari Lynx emulator seem to work fine. I also tested the video player and it seems fine, although I was really disappointed with the quality of video playback.

Any suggestions?

It's a battery issue. Apparently the ones that come with the unit are only reliable for 10 minutes.

Lol, you finally have your GP2X now then!
Yeah, can you believe it? And I thought I was gonna have to send it back because it was crashing so much. I guess the battereis it came with were doa.

Seems stable with my 25000mAh recharagables.

What is the highest mah you can get right now? Is it 2800 ?

I was wondering that myself. The highest *known* brand I've seen is 2600, but a lot of cheap brands seem to advertise much higher ratings than that. Probably BS on their part :)

I know someone personally who walked up to me in a huff saying "I think I need to send mine back ... the screen goes all funny with colored lines."

Yeah, the first time my GP2X did that, I thought it was defective or something :D I'd never see a handheld which reacted like that when the battery was empty :S

just for the record, mine turned on & stayed for about 15 minutes with the batteries included in the box. then i chucked 'em. i guess everyone's is different. there may be some wide tolerances in the battery manufacturing as well.

Ahh, me and my typos...

I was a little freaked out because I had already preinstalled everything to my SD card so I'd be able to immediately jump right into everything when my gp2x arrived. So I pop in the batteries and my sd card and start playing and the thing is unstable right off the bat. Some stuff worked, but Squidge's stuff kept crashing.

I knew about the issues with those crappy batteries, but I didn't think they would make the system unstable immediately. Anyway, life is good now.
