I have noticed that when the GP2x (fw 1.4 - upgraded from 1.21) is playing a game (any), it pauses for about a quarter of a second during gameplay, and then continues. This happens every so often. Is it the GP2x catching up, or is it a firmware issue? Slightly disasserting when playing games! :(

Are other people experiencing this too? <_<

Yes I get the random pausing too, but it doesn't seem to happen in every single game. It may hav e something to do with the speed of the SD card but i'm not sure.

Games are only small typically, I doubt this would cause this. Watching a few minutes of video on the GP2x doesn't cause the problem, and this is where you would expect a pause as movie files are considerably larger.

We had a discussion about that problem. Many devs think that it's the linux part of the gp2x that access the sd card some way or the sd card speed itself (wich type of Sd card speed are you using ?). And cramfs does some more pauses too (2 sec every 5 minutes for some of us).

Garteth - no I am not using Cramfs, I am using the authentic released fw 1.4.

Virusx - I was using a (cheap) SD card from Novatech, and got some quick stutters while using the GP2x. I am now using SanDisk, which is far quicker at reading and writing. This seems to make a difference.

I think theoddbot mentioned it's not the SD card being access; it's the serial port being polled.

I believe it happens usually every 5 minutes for about 2 seconds. He mentioned a fix in an upcoming release of his firmware.

Yes, this is true. But I think there's kind of "2 types of pauses".
The one wich came with the cramfs boot (2 seconds every 5 minutes, kill lots of gameplay) and a smallest one (half a second, randomly) and it is perhaps due to slow Sd.
I saw in some post that the card is still accessed anytime by the Gp2X system, so if you got a fast card you don't see it and if you own a slow one (like I do), you've got some little pauses from time to time.

But he's not using theoddbot's kernel so it's nothing to do with the problem theoddbot introduced. It does seem to have something to do with the SD, as many people (myself included) have noticed that it's not as bad with faster cards. http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=25009

i get it everytime i start a new level in beat2x. about 15 secs into the song.
and on bubtrain at random times.
1.0.1 fw

On my old 512MB Sandisk, I got the pause all the time, but I got a 1GB "Transcend" SD card from Newegg, and no pauses at all on it.

It also updates firmware perfectly.
