I Need An Ac Adapter

I need to buy a new adapter. Why? because the six or so I have laying around for various devices use a bigger plug to plug into the device. This GP2X uses a teeny plug in comparison.

The manual says Output: DC 3V, 1A (or above).

I just want to make sure here. If I have one that outputs at 5V or 7.5V (such as the current ones I have) it will not fry my new toy?

Thanks for answering the noobs questions.

Anything above 4V will fry the GP2X. Anything above 3.3V is very unsafe. Don't use them.

Any amperage below 800mA may not work. Any amperage above 800mA should work fine.

Also make sure that the polarity of the plug is centre negative and preferably get a regulated power supply. Non-regulated supplies suffer voltage drops when the device draws power, possibly dropping below the voltage required to keep the device running.

OK, 800mA or better and make sure the polarity of the plug is center negative, and a regulated power supply. Got it.

So why was a power brick not included again? (No, that is not a smart ass question.)

Ask GPH ;) Really, wouldn't it have been better to include one? :p

Also, you really should spring for at least one amp (1A/1000mAh) of output in your adapter. I have an 850mAh and it has its good days and its bad days :(

alright. I have a quest now, find a 1A adapter.

And honestly, for $189.99, yes, they should have, and it would have been better to include one.

Even though this is a DIY system, it should have the power brick for the unit in the box.

Thanks for the info.

Maybe couse gp2x is sold internationaly and most countrys have different plugs/voltages?
Also many people allready have a multi voltage psu, so they dotn need one.

True but its a surprise that the local sellers do not offer to include one as everyone would probably get one, and they would have the advantage of buying in bulk, the customer convenience etc etc.

Plug it in. If you see smoke, it's unsafe.

Very not funny!

If you buy one, make sure it´s a REGULATED one. The GP2x needs a tremendous amount of current after you switch it on (about 1,6A for about 0,3 seconds), an unregulated won´t be able to deliver it and the GP2x will just have a white screen and do nothing (i tested it).

I think squidge used an unregulated one and he had to crank the voltage up to 4V to make it work - that can be dangerous.

It would make the gp2x more expensive, however, I offer a working PSU in my shop.

AFAIK, you need a 3 volt, 1 amp PSU, and you DO NOT want to go over that. The volts is correct on that one, I am not sure what the 4 amp would do. Hopefully someone will chime in.

My Radio Shack has a 3V, 1A PSU but they want $40 (!!) for it. I don't think so.
