* Some Wifi thing so I can stop dragging around the usb cable

* A recharge-able plug-unit thats fits where the batteries do. make it expansive if it can last 12 hours Id buy it anyway

* Software that allows people to use the gp2x as a PDA of sorts; Id love a way to use the device as a notepad and stuff (seen a simple one, but cant test yet :( )

As far as the pda idea, Im doing that already - even with my current "cant browse the damn SD from within the Gp2X problem", as I keep a text file with notes on the GP2X and have a shortcut on ALL the machines I use to point to that file on the unit ... crappy stop-gap measure atm, Id like an on-unit edit ability, but that wont come till I figure out my SD problem.

I suggest you try out Qtopia. NK got it working on the 2X and it is wonderful. I cant wait for a new release!

Qtopia makes my GP2X to hang: I had to reinstall Firmware 1.2.1 then firmware 1.4.0.. and then cramfs doesn't work anynmore whentrying to reinstall it....
so not sure why we should advise Qtopia...this is more a Alpha release

a hw mod which allows you to plug in the power when batteries are low and continue playing and recharge at the same time

a mod which puts a regular usb connector (or two) on the gp2x itself so we can connect usb wifi sticks, usb blue tooth thumdrives etc. lots of space near the batteries

a mod which allows changing screen brightness and sound

A pda software suite, even if craigix decided to try and get a commercial one going I would pay.

Drivers to make wifi SD cards work, and some sort of Mini Firefox so I can surf the net on the GP2x in hotels etc.

When I had my old mp3 cd player I used to use a large flashlight battery for it. The battery lasted indefinatly, I never had to switch or recharge it, the battery was clunky but I just attached a adaptor plug to the end and kept it in my backpack. when i needed it i pluged it in and used it.

hmm lemme find a link to the battery i used

it is a 6v battery, but you might be able to find something that will work for the gp2x, then run some wires from the leads to the positve and negative in the battery enclosure. you dont have to have a conector for the batteries, just find the two leads that run into the system and not the ones that connect the batteries together and it should work. BE SURE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE VOLTAGE IS CORRECT. I burnt out an old tape walkmen with the wrong type of voltage.

The battery did die after i left my cd player on all week turned on full blast, It died the next week.

You should try Qtopia again. With the Official GPH 2.0 firmware you can just run the qtopia.gpu file directly, without flashing or installing anything: you just unzip to your SD card and run it like any other Utility.

The main reason I use Qtopia is precisely to be able to have some kinda PDA things like the text editor (the best one I've tried: virtual keyboards, I love 'em), the To Do proggie for those little notes, and the Contacts proggie is also pretty handy for stuff.

I wish.. it'll never ever happen though

I'm certainly interested in the battery mod. Anyone have that going on with their GP2X? What was your solution? What do you use? Pics?

My GP2X is modded with a battery comprised of three ipod 3g batteries. It's got two contacts on the battery itself where I clip the charger to. It gets roughly 2times the battery life I had before with 2500mah batteries

Where do you get the 3rd gen batteries from? and is there a cheaper solution than those (iirc those li-ions were $45 a pop and lasted 250 charges)

I suppose it would be possible to fix a pot somewhere to allow for volume adjustment instead of using software, leaving the volume buttons free for other stuff.
But I've never actually had a look at the board so I wouldnt know where to start

I'd be interested in doing this mod when my gp2x arrives in 2 days... I'd be willing to pay someone to do this for me as well! :D

I'd also be VERY interested in a rechargable battery cover replacement like I had with my old GBA. Basically it was 2 rechargable AA batteries inside a small case with a cover that fitted inside the GBA battery compartment (flush - nothing sticking out). This meant you could play the GBA off recharable batteries whilst also charging it via the small 3v in socket on the outside of the case. Anything like this exists for the gp2x?

All I want is a mass-produced D-pad mod right now. I'm not skilled enough to install one on my own.
