Competition News

Hmmm, it took longer than I thought for this thread to drift off-topic and into the "random chat" bucket...

That doesnt prove it, it mearly shows a theory.
It shows a practical experiment showing the desired result was attained. Also I read up on it because i like ot know things. It would be so cool to know everything so I will learn it all one peiece at a time :p Also as i am not doing A level physics I like to learn physics myself and am seriously considereding doing sixth form a second time just for physics.

And it's a pity that our eyes can not see more of the EM spectrum. If we could our thinking about the world would be vastly different. For an example not many know that from time to time there are objects brighter than Sun to see from Earth surface. For an example this:

well, at least we are intelligent enough to design machines that can take pictures for us and then map the results to our visible spectrum.

the thing that always bothers me is that there's no way to visualize space with more dimensions than 3, yet i think such space almost certainly exists (in the sense that particles act if they are in such a space), and mathematicians need to deal with all the time...best you can do is make 3d "slices" or projections of your 3d image.

damn these feeble brains, can't wait for the new robot brain implants

edit: the "just a theory" comment really bothers me. yes it's possible to take the philosophical stance that these are just theories and not "real" per se. but what else do we have? if relativity is "just a theory", then what of newton's physics? experiments have been done, almost 100 years ago. maybe they didn't prove beyond a doubt that relativity is "correct" in some ultimate way. but it at least shows that the alternative is definitely incorrect.

that is, newtonian physics does not work at great distances and great speeds. it too is "just a theory", but it's a theory that's been discounted by the evidence. absolute time...not consistent with the evidence. absolute space...nope.

locality...nope!

(for those that are interested...read up on nonlocality, the epr thought experiment, bell's theorem, and the aspect experiments. IMO some of the most mind-blowing and philosophically important things to ever happen in science. all of it leading up to the idea that everything in the universe is necessarily connected instantaneously to everything else.)

sorry for the rant, me likey physics

Edit: If you didn't understand Craig he means: "The entries are up for downloading".

That's all you care about? Downloading?

The results are up.

A big thanks Craig and Guyfawkes and everyone else who helped with my project!

Haha.
When did I say I didn't care about that?

BTW I didn't even see the results, I went on a swoop straight down the page, and didn't read any of the begginning.

Edit: Irony.
Edit2: I didn't think the results would be up yet, normally it is a while before they are anounced after the downloads come up.

Congratulations to the winners! Also like to say thanks to everyone that took part, 26 entries with a short deadline is a very good turnout so well done to everyone!
