Are those 21 things the only things that have been entered? i thought that there would be way more like...22 or somehting, but anyway im not sure of if this has been asked but why cant they release everything before they have annoced the winner? Im just curious.

Apparently there are actually 26 entries, but some didn't need screenshots.

Nice to know. You wouldnt know what the names or any other info of these are would you?

Actually it's a focal point/blur effect - the image is constantly moving and going to being from sharp to blurry (and reverse). It's using 8 transparent playfields (full RGB color addiction for every of them) and push over 30fps. It must be seen running to see what it's about.

Wow that is cool.. The first scene demo for the GP2X!

I don't know what it is but I really like those demos. I wish there would be more. I like the ones that have the soundtracker music going too. Here's hoping for a GP2X demoscene someday :)

Radek, did you ever have an Amiga?

It's nice to see that someone likes it.

(And it's far more than just a demo - it's side effect of my research about the tiling algorithms, Arm assembler study and profiling of the gp2x's hardware. So I eventually make much more interesting things. And thought I'm very new to the gp2x/Arm programming I can say with some dose of confidence that further improvements are possible. )

My goal wasn't to do only the demo actually. If there wouldn't be that competition I wouldn't relase anything for few weeks. What I would (and will) relase is capable 2D engine and that demo is only a small glimpse what is possible.

It's actually quite interesting technically as it's not really (at least in the conventional way) blitting yet it can scroll and fast!

And there lies the amusement about such demos - to be able to do what wasn't perceived as being possible.

No, no at all. I had something different...

And I think it actually was good for my programming skills and ideas. When you have only a cpu at disposal then you have better to use it well....

edit: and thanks for all complements - they are very motivating.

I won't win, I need a bit of optimisation on music. Puck, would hardware scaling be possible?

Yes, I haven't tried if hardware scaling works in this Fenix version (it could, because it is using accelerated sdl), but if not, it probably will be implemented in next version :)

Regards
Ya, I'm pretty sure it's not implemented, cos I got a good speed increase when I presized on of the characters to get rid of scaling. However, this would take forever to do for 42 processes, each with their own animations, unless someone knows how to do batch resizing?

you mean batch resizing on your computer? photoshop can run actions (like macros) on batches of files, and i'm pretty sure the gimp can be scripted to no end.

I don't know there is nothing wrong with demos :)

It is cool you are tickling the hardware a bit though.

That made me think of an idea. You could use your cool demo graphics for a color organ type thing for the MP3 player ala Winamp, Windows media player, Xbox 360 visualizer etc.

Move over Jeff Minter :p

theres 26 entries into the compo. theres only 21 or so images on the preview page because at the time of posting I didnt get a chance to do screenshots for entries where people had not submitted screenshots (theres 2or 3 missing) or the entry didnt need a screenshot.

once the compo entries page is online all entries will have a screenshot.

Hitler2x! PocketNazi?

I bet it's a tamagotchi type thing featuring Hitler. Whatever it is, Virtual Reichstag or a demoscene demo with psychadelic hitlers and warping swastikas, I have no idea.

We should wait and see - I hope it isn't too offensive =P

Well, lets just say Craig has a history for Hitler jokes.
