Here is a 727KB zip version I uploaded to the archive

I just got my new GP2X (the old one died of firmware maladies, shout out to gp32z.com for replacing mine :D ), and I finally got to try the TV-out everyone has been bitching about so much.

Honestly, it was a bit of crap.

I was wholeheartedly determined to fix it from all the whining I had to read whilst I was forced to the sidelines with firmware maladies.

1. I filed a little bit from the side with the pins (the end you stick into the GP2X), carefully.

2.
I filed the side with the grooves, once again careful to keep it square

3.  Then I took an ordinary piece of 3x5 card, cut out a rectangle with one dimension the same width as the TV dongles connector and bent it into an L shape (the bottom of the L being the distance from the TV connector's shell to the end of the connector, the part that goes inside the GP2X)

4.  I took the L of card paper and placed it into the GP2X EXT connector with the vertical part of the L pointing toward me as I looked at the screen, I then carefully pushed in the TV cable.

IT WORKED, and I don't mean like it did before:

NO AMOUNT OF MODERATE WIGGLING EVEN BUDGED THE PICTURE ON MY TV SCREEN.

I would like to point out that you must own a file, and a bit of a 3x5 card and posess the skill to use them effectively, I hold no responsibility of the suitability of these actions for you personally, they simply worked for me, and I am happy they did :D.

In conclusion:

TV-Out cable = crappy picture

A little time with a file and a bit of cardboard = Good picture on TV screen.

Please mention if you want pictures, and see my other topic on the EXT port here:
$5.24 for a good E810 Samsung Data cable with 24 pins and removable shell with PCB!

Mine was fine when it first arrived but the position of it at the bottom of the console has made it move around a bit and sound cuts in and out when playing some games and resting the console on my lap. Try the gngeo emulator. I have also noticed with the new firmware sound seems to come out of the TV and the Unit so not sure if the connector is loosing contact or the 1.4 firmware has changed something... anyways.... pics please :)

It should be one of those defective cables from the first batch. The cables we have just perfectly works at the moment. No hassle...

Like I mentioned I just got my GP back.

I had a pre-ordered GP2X and TV cable, they sucked.

I don't know anything about the new ones, I guess they may be fixed, I just mentioned how I fixed my cable.

I also preordered my gp2x and tv-out cable for gp32z. The tv-out i received worked great, from what little i tested it. I actually wiggled the hell out of it for quite a bit without any trouble. Guess i got lucky and got a good one from the first batch.

Man that connector is freakin' HUGE. That plug looks like it could be made to power a washing machine. With all of that leverage no wonder it comes loose.

Yeah, I couldn't even get the camera to focus on the really tiny connectors.

The plug is huge by comparison.

Is anybody else having trouble seeing the pictures?

I will change them to .gifs or make them smaller, or you can right click in the boxes and download the large size pictures (only 545KB).

You should return your defective cables... The second batch works without a problem in normal conditions. But if you are happy with this solution then it's no problem. :)

Anyway, greetings to nubie for his efforts... Thanks!

Seems this could be a useful hack for anyone with the first batch. I only recently bought mine so I must have avoided the defected ones.

Nubie, please read the PM I've sent ;)

hmmm, I got my cable from them in mid-jan, and I cant even get a signal via the s-video connection never mind a poor one :(

- VIVIO just shows black
- monitor and TV both give 'no signal found'

I've tried the fix, but it hasnt helped at all even though the cable is now very snug in its port.

Any reports of gp2x's with firmware 1.2.1 not working at all with tv-out?
Switching to tv-out mode just gives me a blank screen on the gp2x and the aforementioned 'no signal' problems..

Anyone got any ideas?
Spring for a new cable?
keep on filing down?

just get a pin and carefully bend the relevant pins upwards slightly

thats what my cable pins look like.

I tried that, still getting no joy :(

There is continuity down the connector, but for some reason I cant get a hint of a TV out signal...

Hmmm, maybe I should do a voltage check on it, if I use my multi-meter to bridge the gap between the inner pins and out case that should give me an idea of voltage running down the lines, right?

At least that way I stand a chance of seeing if I'm getting anything down them (shame I dont have the kit to directly test the pins on the EXT port to make sure they are working properly...
