Hi all, in the readme it says that you need to run the roms with scripts, how do i make and run them, and where do i put them?

Any help appreciated.

open the config file with wordpad (or equivalent) and change the with sound option to true instead of false....

Hi,

no problem: there is a simple textfile in gngeo2x0/conf called "gngeorc" , see below:

# GNGEO resource file for the GP2X

# unused
# libglpath /usr/lib/libGL.so

# Where your rom (and bios) are?
# /usr/games/lib/xmame
rompath ./roms

# and the driver file (copy it from the gngeo archive) ?
romrc ./romrc
romrcdir ./romrc.d

# Play in fullscreen?

for sound, just open "gngeorc" with your preferred text editor, search for "Have sound?" and change "sound false" to "sound true" and save it - thats all... ;)

btw: like this you are able to modify the rest of the script to your own satisfaction.

Just press "Y" to enable sound or download my gngeo2x_config which has been amended so sound is enabled by default and you can disable it when needed by pressing "Y". I no longer forget to set the sound each time I start a rom. :)

There are still games that have performance issues with sound enabled, if you enable sound using the launcher method you can save yourselves having to be near a PC/Mac with a text editor. :)

Will there be a gui for this emu in a later version? I really do not like to modify the script each time I want to change the settings.

If you are talking about enabling sound just use the launcher to do that. Otherwwise get hold of the uni-bios and rename it aes-bios.bin, set your system to home in the gngeorc file. You then have the option to set the region/type of machine on the fly. Enable cheats (if you're that way inclined). Play the ingame music through the built in jukebox, just keep pressing "A" until it starts to work, you get an error message and then it just starts working. :)

I've have already sent a PM to pepone with some questions about the uni-bios and what can and can't be supported by his emulator, I am looking forward to his reply. :D

@chaos engineer

This is Pulstar running on gngeo2x, using uni-bios as aes-bios.bin. With FULL SOUND @ 266mhz runs at an average 45fps. ;)

Neostuey: I'm using the uni-bios, but pulstar always gives me the 'only for use of official boards' error, pepone said that it doesn't even work on the original gngeo - so how exactly have you got it working? I really want to play this game on the move :)

Delete any pulstar.nv file in the save folder.

Have the system set to any region USA, Japan or Europe, but make sure that AES console is selected. It should then run the game. Once you have played the game in AES mode you will able to switch MVS mode and play in arcade mode to, thanks to the pulstar.nv that was created in AES mode.

I've done this with both uni-bios 1.3 and 1.2.

If you try running in MVS mode first you'll get the red warning message at least that's what happened to me. :)

Thanks - that was the part I hadn't done since my many previous attempts to make it work... cheers :)

Works fine now, used a combination of "sound true" and getting the universal bios and changing the machine to home.

Thanks for all your help.

looks really delicious. I guess it is time for me to try out this emu. I was quite happy with nk's neo geo cd emu and the neo geo support of the mame emu. but for games such as shock troopers, garou etc. I have to switch to Gnegeo. But I guess it is really time consuming to figure out how to make the bigger roms working. Are there any tutorials on the web?

hey how do you get pulstar working? I've tried it and it runs out of memory when loading graphics (or at least it says it's out of memory)

I checked the emu out, and I was even able to run the big rom files. this rom dump program works very well, I was really surprised how easy it is to deal with that. Last Blade is awesome on the tiny gp2x screen. ..oh and there is Neo Drift Out with sound.

This only applicable if you are running WindowsXP.

To make a .gfx dump first of all download this tool.

http://m.peponas.free.fr/gngeo/download/dumpgfx_win.zip

Put the roms you want to convert in your dumpgfx_win folder.

Windows start button click on run.

Type "cmd" minus the " ".

Command prompt will open.

Now you need to change directory to where you have the dumpgfx_win folder.

Type "cd path to your dumpgfx_win folder"

i.e. cd C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop\dumpgfx_win

Type "dumpgfx nameofrom.zip" i.e. dumpgfx aof3.zip

All being well after a short pause a .gfx dump will appear. You can then copy the .zip and .gfx to your rom directory.

One point of note.

If the .zip fails to open with a couldn't load message, you will need to check .zip contents to see if the files inside match the names of the files used by romrc. To view the romrc just use wordpad and search for the filename, there is usually more than one listing for each title. You can try renaming the files and making a new.zip archive.

The other scenario is that you are trying to dump an encrypted rom and you will need to go looking for decrypted files in order to make a new .zip archive.

Finally, I did a post earlier in this topic in reply to antidark, who came up with a great idea for reducing the space taken by games with a .gfx dump file.

To read that click here.

It's worth it. ;)

Also you might want to read through the whole of this topic as there is plenty of information to be picked up.

Also visit the wiki page to see what you need and more importantly what titles work and which ones need a .gfx dump file. :D

Linux and OSX versions of the dump utility have been made, but I have no experience of either operating system, so I can't help you with those versions. :)

try putting your dumped gfx file in the directory where your bios is located, if your roms are located somewhere else.

I found your post very informative and it helped me solve the sound and "home/arcade" issue, but I don't see where the overclocking option is, would you mind pointing it out to me, thanks, H.G.
