Is It Fair?

They were disclosing the power and performance of the PS3 by saying it was not as powerful as the 360, and therefore losing potential sales. A lot of people want the best performing console there is out there and shops know this, so a shop is going to carry much more stock of the 360 rather than PS3 when they know this fact.

Sounds simple to me...

Yeah, it's true. I read it a while back on digg.com. However, you don't have to feel sorry for the guy. He apparently got numerous offers from other companies after he was fired and he's going to earn a lot more money. :D. So, all well ends well.

He broke an NDA that he signed and should have understood. 'Nuff said really.

I meant is it true that the XB360 is more powerful than the PS3?

It's unlikely that anyone can really make a real world comparison on system power untill the system is out and playing real games. This employee obviously commented on information he was contractually obligated not to. It's his own fault for not saying what ever he said and not covering his ass enought o make sure no one knew he said it if he was going to try and leak info.

BTW, To be specific what the guy the got fired was commenting on was the game development process not the system power. By stating people where having trouble compared to the 360 he was revealing delicating behind the scenes information that could have changed at somepoint but not have been made public thus reflecting an inacurate view to investors and consumers. (whether it stayed true or not it wasnt his right to reveal it, that's what press releases are for.)

The thing I don't get is that the guy didn't actually mention any specifics. Even after stating PS3 sucks and 360 rules, he didn't go any technically why he said that. So, what did he leak? Saying something is better than other is very subjective and unless that's ultimately truth that they're hiding, he didn't reveal anything. It sounds more like he's fired because he pissed off Sony rather than anything else.

That guys a moron, c'mon, admitting to speaking to Microsoft xbox 360 people was probably enough to get him fired. Its his own damn fault and if i had a company and my people were talking business with my competitors, i'd fire them too. Sony is not the bad guy here like your making them out to be.

I'm not necessarily saying Sony is a bad guy here, since I would be pissed and would have done the same thing. I'm rather talking about the circumstance around it that sounds funny like a Seinfeld episode, rather.

Which it does when your only getting the one side of the story, which is what you're getting here. And obviously the guy knows he's at fault or breached the NDA or he would've already sued Sony and as far as i'm aware, it hasn't happened.

You're no fun, especially when it comes to Sony in any way. Yes, the guy's moron, and he's got what he deserved but that's besides the point that I was making. You don't have to be overly defensive of Sony all the time. Relax, buddy. ;)

Ummm, you were the one who posted 2 sony-critical posts one after another, he's just responding to the logic that the guy pretty much got what was comming to him.

I'm sure a MS or Nintendo employee would have gotten the pinkslip just as fast.

can someone please point out to me where i was overly defensive of Sony?

Being someone of business myself, i understand how it works, which I think I can assume you don't Code. Any company, not just Sony would've done the same thing when it comes to future products and mingling with the competition. Its common sense, not a defense of Sony.

I've been in the industry for 8 years PROGRAMMING games, and understand how things work, maybe too much. I wasn't really talking about legality of the case, but people seemed not understand the irony of it. I guess, when the joke's not funny, I should just shut up. I'm a bad comeddian.

there's no irony in the story, the guy blabbed his mouth and got fired. It just happened to be Sony so everybody makes a big ordeal, but had it been a new Pepsi product and some guy blabbed to Coke about it, you wouldn't hear of it.

It might be for the "GPU" but not for the "CPU" (or I should say multi vector units). The Cell as being very hard to program for has extreme potential and it's possible that first generation of software will look better on the 360. But one developers get more grip on the Cell then it should reverse.

well, its supposed to be easier toprogramm for than for ps2 (wich was a bitch), you can clearly see this by looking how much the games advanced on the ps2, totaly untypical for a console.
