Sorry can't type: Should be Audio file PLAYER

The music player won't play .wma file, correct?

Before you all flame me and tell me to convert all my music files from .wma to .mp3 how about adding .wma to the player? I don't want to re-rip all the CDs I have to .mp3, it took me 3 days to get them riped, and put on my server.

Thanks,

Tex-Hogger

wma is BAD and EVIL take the time and rip them in a proper format like ogg flac or mp3, cdex is a great opensource software that allows you to do that.

If you ripped them yourself with Windows Media Player, you can forget that.

Music you rip with WMP is DRMmed by default and will only play on the PC you ripped it on; you wouldn't even be able play it on the GP2X, even if it supported the format.

rather then re rip them.. use sound forge to change em to mp3, or ogg. It takes like 20seconds per song.. :)

You can get the trial of sony soundfroge at sony.com i think.

Of course nickspoon is now waiting for someone to say:
"Oh great nickspoon, what pray tell, be the third great evil?"

But no one say it...
...oh wait...

I was going to do a joke about Drak's old sigs, but now I'm not going to, because that wouldn't be nice.
So instead, I'm going to piss off an entire country. Can you guess which one?
It's funny-looking, stripy and smells of garlic. It's also the third great evil.

Umm... I don't think so...

I ripped 5 CDs to MP3 format using only Windows Media Player and all tracks play perfectly well on my 2x (in fact, I was playing them for some friends at lunch today).

Unless you just mean that WMA ripped via WMP is DRM'd. That, I could understand. But please, if that is what you mean, be more specific the next time you make a post.

Agreed, CDex is the best ripper I have yet used. Also, LAME is opensource and has a very extensive list of options. I personally use "--alt-preset 192" for 192Kbps Average Bitrate, but that's just me. . .

I agree, too. Even though it's been ages since we've seen an update, it's still the best ripper out there. A bit on the slow end, but with alt-preset-standard and a high threshold vbr mp3, the filesize is low and the audio quality is better than excellent.

Is there a port to Linux? I can't sem to wrap my head around 'making' files in Linux. I get errors doing exactly what the readme asks me to do. I guess I just need more practice. ;)

Edit: In KDE (I'm not sure if this is true with GNOME), when I open the CD that's in the drive, there are folders that contain MP3s on the disc that, of course, aren't actually there... That's how I've been getting MP3s off my CDs since I switched.

MP3 doesn't have a standard DRM format, so there is almost no way you would run into that problem.

I think you can turn off the DRM if you go to Tools<<Options<<Copy Music(Tab) and uncheck "Copy Protect Music". I've never ripped using WMP, so I'm not entirely positive if this is the DRM switch or if that is somewhere else if anywhere at all.
