Thats right, a "new" Genesis/Megadrive game is going to see release soon. "Xin Qi Gai Wang Zi" also know as Beggar Prince was released in Taiwan in 96, but is now getting an official English release. http://www.gamingsteve.com/archives/2006/0...enesis_li_1.php

I am personally gonna get a copy. $40us + shipping may seem a little expensive to some, but remember back then when cartridge games were going for $70? At $46 shipped with manual and case, its a fair price. Looks like a nice piece to add to my collection.

Sigh an RPG shamelessly ripped off a famous book. Where's the originality?

Beggar Prince has been reported to be in the works for a US release for a while now. I'm pretty sure you can even find an already translated rom of it. (an early translation project I assume that might have lead to the cartridge.)

Edit: okay only fairly suspicious that one can be found as I've just read that no one seems to know of one.

You can pre-order on the official site. Supposed to ship in spring 06. I ordered one. According to the company, they have their own translation team, and did the translation in house. They also do games for pdas and phones.

Alpha2, you were partly correct it seems. Apparantly, a few well known guys in the scene are involved. Here is a link to a blog by one of them, as well as some info on why you havnt seen a rom: http://www.cinnamonpirate.com/blog/210

They probably found some new way to abuse the hardware. I'm sure once there's a dump of the cart it will eventually be emulated, it'll just take time.

Technically there's no reason why there shouldnt already be a dump, it just wont work in an emulator. The only differenance between the chinese and US version is the dialog and the bug fixes with probably wont effect the emmulation.

Well i got my copy of Beggar Prince the other day. I didnt play it yet, since ive been too busy with my new PC Engine Duo-r :D
A few things to report: The quality of the packaging is slightly below an original genesis game. Its similar to the very last games released, where its obvious they were trying to keep costs down. Its nowhere near as shitty as a pirate cart though, so dont get me wrong. Im happy with the quality.

I took the cart apart, and its slightly different from your average cart. Genesis cars are generally just an eprom on a board. This one uses a Xilinx logic chip, as well as some flash ram. I forget off hand whats on the other side of the board, besides a replacable battery for backup. I didnt really give it a good look, just took it apart and glanced over it real quick. I can take some pics of the cart for anyone whos interested in the hardware aspect of it.

I suggest everyone pick up a copy if your a genesis fan, or the least bit curious. I like to support new software for old hardware.
