I have searched these forums and read several threads about this problem, but have yet to find a solid answer to it. Does anyone really know why this is happening? Has GPH said anything about the problem? PLEASE, answer ONLY IF you really know what the problem is, and are not guessing. Thanks.

Return it, or fix it yourself by voiding the warrenty.

You need to open it and solder.

Fix it yourself... If you know someone who can solder somehow let him do it, there are 4 connectors to the headphone jack, you need to solder the one which is alone, there is a small gap, works perfectly after that.

Well, voiding the warranty... in fact, someone couldn't probably tell it really got opened before.... and if you get a new unit now or later (if the unit gets broken somehow) it costs the same money for GPH...

You obviously haven't searched well enough. Try this thread here.
