Hi all,

I want to get some emulators for the 2X... but there are so many I don't know where to start. Any help is appreciated.

for example... why C64? What makes it great? and how good is it on 2X?

Also... what do you think the most complete emu at the moment is? Would be nice to get a massive catalog of working games for one particular emu. I know they are all in early stages, but I am just looking for something to play ATM.

Thanks.

I just got my GP2X, and I've tried a few. Basically, I like the non complicated ones, with a flashy menu and full performance.

At this point the only emlators that have met my high standards ate.

drMDx, the pceninge one, and Vice2X.

These are simeple and fun to use. I still have a lot to try. Like the Atari ST one and a few of the GBC ones.

The best most complete (run near full speed with sound) ones that I know of are:

DrMD
Tuskenraider's Lynx emu
Frodo
Atari 400/800
Outcast ST emu
MAME

Others that are close:

NeoGeo
GNuBoy
Vice2X
PC-Engine

M.E.S.S. Is also very, VERY good ... TI-99/4A runs damn-near perfectly (speech synthesis! OMG!), as does colecovision and Atari 7800 (I haven't tried the coco emu, but I honestly have no interest in that machine)

I agree with these (the ones I have played :) )

I HIGHLY recommend the Atari emulator. It comes with Lode Runner, a true classic.

I also think for Sega Genesis you couldn't go wrong with DrMD, you gotta love Sonic.

Sound great... will check out Frodo and DrMDx.. BTW is there a Sega Master System emu yet? would love to play Alex Kid again... and Gain Grounds... ooohh the memories.

If I could only have one emu on my GP2X it'd be DrMDx... Reesy has done a STELLAR job on this and is the single most played app on my unit - runs fast, saves states, and has yet to crash/freeze on me yet... I just wish I had more spare cash around to donate for the work done on it <sigh>.

As for SMS emu, I have SMSplus2x but have yet to get past the menu screen... either I haven't spent enough time installing and configuring it correctly (very likely) or it just isn't working yet - at any rate, you can check it out at http://www.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,5,903 and see for yourself.

Vice for C64 and Vic20 and C16 & Plus/4

GPEngine - for shooters

Mess for experimenting with more obscure systems

NeoGeoCD emulator is the MUST-HAVE!
- It has its own front-end, which make it easier to use than gngeo (traditional neo geo emulator).
- Besides this, gngeo roms are not compatible with Neogeo roms for Mame.

Gngeo2x has a file selctor include with latest binary release. It really is very simple to use.

You can use the dumpgfx utility to play the large neogeo roms!

It has very high compatibilty, and the performance is already very good and set to improve as Pepone has been very active, whereas the NeoCD emu development stalled back in December.

Check out the wiki Gngeo2x page if you need convincing. :D

I'm really enjoying DrMDx.. but I would even more if I could get a hold of a good sonic rom...

I'm also running Squide SNES quite a bit for Super Mario All-Stars, but I'll really be burning through batteries once a SNES emu that can play mario kart comes out.
