Help Installing?

Ok, I really should be asleep (working the night shift these days) but my GP2X just got here so I'm too stoked to sleep. :)

How exactly does one install the software though? I *think* I got the sdls installed (copied the gpu and tar.gz files to the card, ran the file, and the screen blanked for a few seconds) but when trying to install nkNES2, it doesn't show up. I notice there's no gpu/tar.gz files, just a gpe.

Alas, the readme is in some language that won't even show up on a 7-bit ascii console. :) Probably Korean. I did try though. ;)

Help!

"Also, you must have the SDL Libraries installed to run it."

lol, download it on the nes emulator page, also do this on the snes, and i think another one lol, if your still having probs, tell us ;)

I am a moron. I just got my gp2x a few days ago and cant seem to get my computer to detect that it is plugged. I think I have tried every thing, will some please help the irish idiot?

Yes, I'm still having problems. I said I installed the libraries (i think. It didn't give me any sort of confirmation, just a blank screen for a few seconds), I just can't figure out how to run the frelling emulators themselves.

the gpe file can be loaded from the games menu on your gp2x.

which directory the file must go in is emulator specific and will be mentioned in the readme (if there is one)

does everything include going to "USB connect" in the settings menu on your gp2x? if not, try that. if so, a cheap SD card reader is a worthy investment.

Crap, I have tried the usb menu on the gp2x. Where can I snatch up a card reader?
Although I do hear a rattling inside the gp2x right where the usb cord connects, i think that might be an issue

hmm, don't know what to say about the rattling. maybe something's come loose inside? however, usb connect isn't really that stable anyway so go with the card reader if you're ok for money.

i don't know where you're from but in the UK maplin, jessops, staples, pc world, curries and loads of electronics/photography based places sell them. in the U.S. I dont' really know but radio shack is a name i keep hearing. online try ebay, newegg, ebuyer or anywhere like that.

just reading an earlier post, i guess you're in ireland so i also guess the U.K. places will be familiar.

also, what operating system are you running?

edit: last question

Im an Irish American, in the US right now. XP Professional. I do not want to have to send my gp back to the U.K if that rattling is the issue, i hope its not

aha - irish american! yeah, sorry i don't know anything about american shops. but apparently there are compatibility issues with XP. I haven't read much about them seeing as i've never used usb connect but a search of this forum (maybe of just "usb") should lead to your solution (or lack thereof). take it easy in texas.

nah, sorry I haven't used that emulator. check the readme. might be something like L+R, or *push in stick*+R(+L) or vol-up+vol-down together. there might not even be one in which case you just have to turn off then on again (there might be a way to exit any file implemented later...possibly)

At the moment, I'm just power cycling. Unfortunately, there's no english readme for the nk emus. =\

Current project: Trying to figure out how to rip PSX games! I want to give g2psx a go. :)

this might be a bit long-winded but maybe worth a try. I don't know what language the readmes are in but you could try searching for "exit" or "quit" or other synonyms in that language and then the button presses will still be readable. Or you could try translating the whole readme using babel fish or similar then looking for "exit", "quit" etc.

might be worth a try. searching for the emulator name in the forum might yield your answer as well.

No dice. My guess it would be in Korean, but there's no ascii in there whatsoever, so theres nothing even able to cut and paste into b-fish.

Tried the search already, also no dice.

to back out of the emu push the stick in and press R. This will bring you back to the rom selector. If you wish to exit this, just hit start to go back to the root menu.

Groovy. Thank you. :)

Do you know if the rom supports save states? If so, how are those triggered? :)

Much obliged.
