Program And Emulater's Source Problem

Assuming it has many of the same interior parts as the GP2X there's still a question of price. this thing is likely to be more expensive than the 2X, I mean look at the thing and the specs they give. Even if it could use the same programs as the GP2X there's no gauantee it'll hurt sales of it... atleast anywhere other than korea. And if it's meant to se open source applications then chances are it wont matter if the GP2X version source code is released as someone will just port code from a PDA version or some linux version the same as what's being done for the 2x.

They seem to be to marketing this as more of a media player than a game player. If so it might be over looked as anything else other than that.

The Odd-i P10 features 4 inch LCD, 16m colors, dual CPU, playback of video and MP3 files. 2 Megapixel camera and camcorder, FM radio, video/voice recording, text viewer, photo album, TV in/out, jog-stick navigation key, 20GB memory are also offered. The price will be at least 400,000 won( $400USD).

Mimimal price found at some site. It also looks like they are copying the 2x with the dual processor heh.

Release date in Korea: September.

no info on the cpu yet :p This thing interests me since it has a gigantic screen, can run gp2x code supposidly? But the main thing is the gigantic screen so I can watch all my media on it :)

(was my main purpose for getting gp2x.)

The screen is not "gigantic" it is just wide. It is misleading because a diagonal measure of a 16:9 screen would be larger than a 4:3 screen of the same area measure. Area is what is important that is the square mm of viewing space. The more rectangular the more the diagonal measure will be relative to the area (simple geometry).

The image size of an emulator such as Megadrive for example would be *smaller* on this screen than it would be on the GP2X when displayed at 1:1.

They aren't copying the GP2X CPU they are just using the same one. Anyone can use the MagicEyes CPU in their device. It is available to anyone to use in any device from PMPs to digital cameras.

Cool? most anime/movies are 16:9 that I got/ will get so yeah.

Anyway I was wondering date, where did you get the information that it can use gp2x code stuffs? I dont mind if its in korean ill just use a translator to give me a rough outline hehe.

Well look at this as a mixed bag... if Drak is giving up on the GP2X... then we won't have to deal with some of his sigs and avatars...

If what he says is true about running 2x code then how would that prevent my sigs from being here? <_<

If it cant, ill just use my 2x hehe.

Let's all say it together people O P E N - S O U R C E.

It's so incredibly simple. I'm not even going to post a massive rant explaining it, it's not worth the effort.

Personally your Love of Haku kinda scares me, but that's neither here nor there.

The only real effects this has on the GP2x is:

1. Will people buy this rather than the 2X?
2. Will Apps made for this work on the 2X?

My personal feeling:
1. this will be more expensive than the 2X I cant see t costing less than 200 dollars.
2. If it can run 2X apps then we should be able to run IT'S apps, albeit with some tweaking as the screen it is 16:9 rather than 4:3

As for 16:9 anime, Sure some of it is comming out with that aspect ratio but there's still a lot of 4:3 anime and I'm already prepared for 16:9, that's what I have a PSP for.

And if it is emulators or PC ports such as Doom that we get from them they will be 4:3 anyway, so no tweaking for those would even be needed.

you are complete idiots if you think this is a GP2X copy or "clone"

its not a clone, its a personal media player which to state the obvious plays various media, unfortunately Gp2X didnt invent the personal media player market

wow it has dual CPU's, the GP2X isnt the first device ever to accomplish that.

But anyway, my love of Haku is not scary... he's just an unusually good character...
But on the matter at hand... WTF?! it looks like one of those little Vugo things all the kids in the elementary and middles schools are buying... n00bs...

you can use SD cards with it...
But listen to this... You can only register it with one computer for use... And anything you download onto it is immediately DRM'd so you can't copy it back...

If the GP2X does not crash&burn, the clones could get quite common...

there could even be a 'Clone Wars'...

using off the self parts does have its disadavantages.
