Hello,
Just thought I'd let you know I did a really crappy port of wolf3d to the gp2x, for the moment it's a little slow, had some issues with the joystick control, no saves and needs alot more work! Consider this a very early beta to try if you really, really want to. It's only the shareware wolf3d version for now and the data files go in the same directory as the .gpe

Well enjoy and if you find something horribly wrong with it let me know.
TJ Hooka

It's available at the wolf3d gp32 sourceforge page here

Thanks! Might aswell give it a go :)

EDIT :

Runs pretty smoothly! The control issue is a pain, you have to keep tapping the stick it to keep spinning right. Also make sure you use the 1.4 version of the shareware as version 1.0 doesnt work. There was no sound (not sure if there was supposed to be) and it doesnt run full screen but its more than playable.

Anyway excellent work Hooka, cant wait for the final release :D

Hmm, and I can't upload it to the archive or post news about it as my stuff is hosted on a German server...

wow... forgot about that.. i was really surprised about that when i was visiting the 3drealms site... can you link it?

and why is that?

Was there never a shareware version with the Nazi symbols and insignia removed?

EDIT :

Nevermind the only version that was altered was the SNES version. As per the Wolf 3D wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfenstein_3D

"Due to concerns from Nintendo, the Super NES version was modified to not include any swastikas or Nazi references; furthermore, the attack dogs in the game were replaced by giant rats, and blood was replaced with sweat to make the game seem less violent."

On a side note the one thing I hate about metal Slug CD is that they replaced blood with what looks like water when you kill a soldier

What the hell? Of course you can post news about it!
I also doubt that uploading the game engine would be any problem since the engine alone could be used to run anything or nothing. There are no swastikas in the engine, are there?

I was going to say that as well. The binary of the engine doesn't contain anything forbidden.

As long as ED says it is not allowed to be posted or as long as he doesn`t want it to be posted, I won`t do so.

I can understand not uploading the engine to the archive but I don't understand why there shouldn't be a news post... Oh well...

Well, when you have the responsibility of hosting a great site like this, it's better not to take chances. Besides, most hosts are pretty leary of getting in trouble b/c of what someone posts on thier servers.

Besides though, Wolf3d is about eliminating Nazi's... that's a positive thing in my book! B)
