One of the sole reasons I wanted a GP2x was the promise of a Megadrive emulator so I could play classics such as Shining Force 2, Road Rash 2, Sonic etc... and a MegaCD emulator for Shining Force CD. I was just wondering if any of you genius developers are in the process of creating, and if so would a small donation of £20 or so through paypal would help the matter? Also I have spotted Reesy's DrMD is being developed for the gp2x, but there is very little info on it.

Thanks

Well, you can find a post by Reesy in these forums, I seem to recall he had a paypal address in his signature.

Nope, didn't have. :( I should think one of his e-mail-adresses might be paypal, but gotta ask...

My PayPal address is
drsms_reesy at yahoo.co.uk
replace "at" with "@"

Thanks very much :)

DrMD currently runs at 55fps with the sound on while running Sonic 1 (for people who want to compare with the GP32 version). Currently I'm only using 1 cpu, the graphics are not optimised for this new video buffer layout and also the sound in being handled by a seperate thread.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that DrMD is going run very very smoothly when complete. It should never drop below 60fps no matter what game you throw at it.

Will it run fast enough for MegaCD? well this will depend on the advancements made in the low level sdk because I doubt its possible while in linux but you never know.

I haven't released a version yet because I'm having problems with the double buffering code which only effects the menu because the emulator renders graphics line by line rather than frame by frame and so does not cause a flicker problem.

The current double buffer code works for Rlyeh but flickers a lot for me, when I've resolved this issue I'll release a version.

Sounds good, MD Emu is one I'm very much looking forward to.

MegaCD would be awesome, I'm still very much addicted to Night Trap, Sewer Shark, Ground Zero Texas, Tomcat Alley etc. Back in the day it was like 'ohhhh proper videos!!!' and you could totally ignore actual gameplay because it had videos!!!

I dont know what source you use for your emu but NeoGenesis on the xbox uses Gens and it has almost perfect 32X and MegaCD emulation. I'm sure you have looked into this anyway.

Scummer! Scummer! ;) I didn't know they had the internet in Southampton

Awesome! :)

This means I'll be able to play Street Fighter, as I've seen taht there's a version of it for the Megadrive.

The SNES version is running full speed without sound in the latest version of NKs SNES emu. :)

MegaCD is still 16bit right? the only differece is the sound (able to play sound direct from CD), surely not that much more processing power than the megadrive is required... I am hopefull that a MegaCD emulator will emerge at some point.

afaik, the mega cd has it's own independent processor, along with hardware scaling and mode 7 etc. So it will probably mean that reesy will need to open up the second core to get that going along with getting rid of linux as he will efectively have to emulate two systems (mega cd & megadrive) simultaneously.

Adding 32x would be impossible for the gp2x, probably more so than psx.

Oh.. Ok, not easy... But surely it will be done at some point, as its less advanced than a PSX and thats been sucessfully emulated.
