Very Confused About Firmware

What gives?? It seems to show as version 102 (1.02 ??), but next to the word "version" there is nothing!

I managed to upgrade the firmware too using the .img file as the ONLY file on the SD card (even saw the "Firmware Upgrading" screen), but this screen remains unchanged.

Of note: out of the box, I never saw any ghosting, or white line on the side .. so as you can see, I'm a bit confused.

I don't want to risk getting the new upgrade, until I'm certain of what I have ...

I would guess, and keep in mind this is a guess, that you have the version from the November 12th update. Your battery LED is still on and you say you are missing the white line. I have no idea about the lack of a version number though. You could update to the one released yesterday or wait for an even better one.

Thanks for the reply, I think I'll wait.

What also bugs me, is the S/N ... dated 11/18/2005 ... I'm assuming it already had the 11/12 update, but why did it let me run the upgrade if it was already upgraded?!?

</logic overload>

The S/N is all manufacturing data, and has nothing to do with what firmware you have.

Here's mine (I've got a skin on it so it's blue) mine's unit #132, I'm guessing it was initialized on the 14th.

I upgraded the firmware and now it says version 1.0.1

Hope this clears things for people.

Oh, by the way, flashing my firmware didn't work at first, I had to reformat my SD card in windows before the card would work. I have a normal SanDisk 1GB card. Once I did that and put the upgrade on there as it boot it gave me the Upgrading Firmware screen... then once that worked I ran the patch that's included.

I'm thinking that the Version doesn't show up until you've upgraded at least once... so theV102 machines probably have a factory installed 1.02 version (which may not be out on their site yet since 1.01 was just released today.)

Nope, v102 means it's the third factory run (first one was v100, second one v101)

Well thank you all for your replies :)

... but I'm still VERY wierded out by the lack of a version number. Even after the upgrade, nothing shows

Well, in that picture you showed, the 1.01 firmware hasn't installed yet, since your battery light is still on... once the 1.01 version is in, the light turns off.

It's quite possible that the in the version of the firmware installed at the factory the version number was broken, there seem to be many fixes in 1.01.

Ok, I'm completely fucking stumped.

I installed the new firmware, ver 1.01 .. I know it was successful as I saw the "Upgrading firmware" screen, then the new green loading screen came up (that shows firmware ver. 1.01 at the bottom), I even ran the patch as well.

My battery led is now off, but my info screen still shows nothing next to "version"

It's likely no big deal, but it still bugs me

I had mine showing version 1.0.0 until I ran "patch20051128.gpu" in the utilities section.

You have to put all the files from the new 1.0.1 firmware .zip onto an SD card.

The IMG files aren't needed.

Then when you run "patch20051128.gpu" in the utilities menu you should get the new version number.

Just a hint, make sure the file "version" makes it onto the SD card
