i have a few episodes of futurama in avi form here, i tried one in the gp2x and it said unsupported file media type, how do i reencode the file to the correct settings that will allow it to work in the gp2x, i.e. what app do i need, and what are the settings?

cheers

do i have to be encoding to a certain resoulution or a certain version of that codec? also do i need to download the codec seperately, sorry im a newb with video stuff.

Get Auto Gordian Knot and the K-lite codec pack (good results will come from google).

re-encode to divx (set the sound to not ac3), the rest of the settings are up to you, the bigger the image size and higher the bitrate audio the larger the file will be.

I'm using vbr mp3 128k audio and 320 width with file size set to 200mb for movies and its very good on the gp2x screen, it will be blocky on a tv though. Set the size to 100mb for a 1 hour tv show.

you can make it smaller but I noticed quite bad artifacts in fast action when I dropped the size below 200mb for 2 hours.

if the audio is mostly dialogue you can drop the vbr mp3 128 down to 64 with no aparent loss of quality.

I always found on the GP32 that about 100kbit/s was fine for video, and audio was pretty decent at 24kbit mono (stereo if I really valued the show). Worked out at about 1mb/min or a little less at 320x192 (you save quite a lot of space by cropping 10-20 pixels off the top and bottom or a show).

For the GP2x, I imagine I'll encode stuff a tad higher for the sake of it being watchable on a TV, but we'll have to see. Some of the ones I did for the GP32 (especially anime episodes or CGI films) look perfectly good on my computer monitor at fullscreen, barring the occasional odd artifact, so they might be OK on a TV screen; we'll see :).

i cant install divx 4, seems like it's seeing somthing newer, i.e. divx 5.5 or somthing, any i encoded the video to 320*240 and it was around 35 megs in size, for 20 minute cartoon, when i went to play it in my gp2x, it crashed, the screeen went all crazy, loads of lines moving across the screen, i had to restart the system. any ideas?

If you are a complete newbie using virtualdub there is a good tutorial here,

http://shanebrinkmandavis.com/homepage/Arc...ualDubTutorial/

ok, granted it is for the Archos but if you substitute some of the figures in the postings above you might find it useful.

Unfortunatly my GP2X is in the UK and I am in OZ so I can't muck about with any of the settings myself so you are on your own............good luck

I've had some success with iriverter. Although the GUI has a few 'issues', it has churned out working videos so far.

Here is the iriverter config file I did for the 2X (save as gp2x.profile in the profiles sub-directory):

----Cut Here----8<----

device=GP2X-F100
maxVideoBitrate=2500
maxAudioBitrate=384
dimensions=320x240 512x384 640x480 720x480
maxFrameRate=30

Better: Avidemuxer, MPEG video encoding, Lame Audio, downsample to 320*240 or comparable, 96kb/s audio (or lower, if you like), and 20FPS if animated. That last one especially will save obscene amounts of space. At those settings I get a twenty minute show in about fifty MBs, or 2MB/minute, which should not be too shabby if I get a reasonably high capacity SD card.
