Where can I find a list of known issues and resolutions please?

Got my GP2x. I am experiencing a few issues, I've gone through the faq's, I've searched (thank you) and would like to know if there's a simple list posted somewhere so we can see in one place what issues are known about.

I've found bits and pieces of info scattered around, could someone provide a link to one easy to find thread?

thanks

No flames ta. Don't say 'search' either, its been done. cheers

Type of A/S Complaints

1. SD Card Detection
1) Please check whether the SD card is inserted before booting GP2X or not. Because current firmware version cannot detect SD card when SD card is inserted after booting, please make sure to insert SD card before booting GP2X. Through firmware upgrade, soon we will make the detection of SD card possible even if it is inserted after booting.
2) Please check the capacity of the SD card. Because current firmware version cannot detect 2GB SD card, we will patch it through the firmware upgrade soon.
3) Detection problem depending on SD card manufacturer:
Recommendable SD card brands proven through our test so far are as follows:
1. Transcend Mind-SD 128M, SD 128
2. LG SD 1G
3. Teravit 80X SD 1G
4. UMAX 60X SD 1G
5. Imation SD 512M
6. Sandisk 1G, 512M, 256M (SDSDB-1024-A10 수입제품)
7. A-DATA My Flash SD 1G
8. I-O DATA SD 512M
9. MAX Ultra Pro II SD 1G

4) Speed and stability of SD: Current SD card driver may have problem in the speed of Reading/Writing. So it may have problem of intermittent stop while playing movie. Those problems shall be solved through continual upgrade of firmware.
5) NAND Memory Detection:
Though GP2X has 30MB NAND memory space available for user, but the space is not being supported currently. This problem shall be solved through firmware upgrade.
2. USB Detection Problem
1) USB detection process shall be as follows:
가) Check PC OS.
- GP2X does not support Windows 98
- GP2X supports Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4.0 and up are recommended to be installed )
- GP2X supports Windows XP
나) Please check whether the SD card inserted before booting GP2X or not.
다) Please insert USB cable. Rarely USB cable may have problem. If any problem, Check if USB cable is detected by other system or not.
라) Please select Setting  USB from the Menu after booting.
2) When PC does not detect USB
가) If ! mark appears, please click GP2X homepage->Library->recommended article, and get USB monitor program downloaded and installed. After that, please repeat above-mentioned USB detection process.
나) If USB detection problem persists even after installing USB monitor program, it needs A/S.

3. Caution during Firmware upgrade process:
1) Please make sure to format SD card in FAT32 method when upgrading firmware.
2) Though both FAT16 and FAT32 methods are applicable when not upgrading firmware, FAT32 method is rather desirable.

4. LCD Screen
1) White vertical line appearing on left end side: Please get the firmware upgraded after downloading file by clicking GP2X homepage->Library->Newest Firmware #2.
2) Different brightness between left and right half of the LCD screen:
Please upgrade with the above-mentioned firmware.
3) Inadequate brightness, diagonal waving, blinking: They are phenomena occurring after patching new firmware. We will upgrade the firmware soon after solving all the bugs related with the new LCD.
4) Taking off LCD protection film and protection panel vinyl:
Currently GP2X has vinyl put on its LCD and protection panel. Make sure to take off each vinyl before putting on protection panel on LCD.
5. Earphone jack:
1) Incomplete contact of earphone jack is primarily not hardware problem but due to incomplete insertion. You’ll only have to push earphone into the jack completely until you hear clicking sound. Please make sure the metal plug of the earphone not show at all if seen from rear side.
2) If both speaker and earphone sounds at the same time, the plug of earphone is not inserted completely. Carefully insert it till the end.
3) When both left and right earphone does not sound right even after being completely inserted, it needs A/S.
6. Assembly:
1) Very rare detection problem of the left key of Joystick
Very simple solution. No need to disassemble.
1. Hold stick just like you are going to fasten bolt.
2. Turn reverse-clockwise about three rounds softly pushing from time to time.
(Caution: Do not force abruptly. The key is turning around slowly!!)
3. Go to test mode and check again.
4. After checking, turn it around reverse-clockwise if necessary.
5. How to check the optimum state of the joystick.
- With the stick being pushed vertically, turn the stick one round. If it works all the way around, it is in optimum state !
* Expert in mechanical engineering recommended this method. He also experienced such a trouble when he over-fastened the bolt. ^.^;
The cause is over-fastening of the bolt.

2) Very rare USB cable problem
3) Very rare power switch problem
4) When red LED does not turn on, it needs A/S.
Above-mentioned 1)~4) are related with assembly. Send the unit back to us for A/S.
5) Battery case

7. Battery life
1) Movie test condition
가) Movie format: Movie(DviX 4, 320*240, 30Frames, 800Kbps), Sound(MP3, 2CH, 128Kbps, 44KHz)
나) Battery: Sanyo Ni-MH 2500mA, 1.2V
다) Current actual battery life: 3 hr 10 min.
라) Cause and Remedy: Electricity is draining to TV-out module. This drainage shall be solved by firmware upgrade and be improved to 4 hours.
2) MP3 test condition
가) Battery: Sanyo Ni-MH 2500mA, 1.2V
나) Current actual battery life: 5 hrs
* Current actual battery life shall be increased by firmware upgrade soon.

8. Others subject to firmware upgrade
1) Loading screen: To be upgraded for loading screen to appear automatically on turning on power switch.
2) Loading speed: currently 28sec  20sec under
3) Red LED bug: firmware upgrade

9. Application bug
1) Movie player
- The problem of replaying from the start when Pause button is pressed is being worked on.
- When encoding the utility BADAK, acceleration problem of Xvid exists. Open Divx or Divx codec is recommended to be selected.
2) MP3 player
- Problem of slightly slowing down when EQ is selected (cause is being detected)
- Improvement of other UI
3) Text Viewer
1. History feature (next firmware upgrade)
2. Bookmark feature (firmware upgrade in the near future)
4) Image viewer
1. Magnifying and shrinking (next firmware version)
2. Current maximum resolution is up to 2048 X 1024 (if possible, better resolution photo file shall be supported )
5) SDK Compilers and SDL shall be provided in the near future.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what does A/S mean?
regards
Mark

This might be a little late, but I changed the list a bit to make it easier to read (removing non-issues and minor problems):

Firmware Issues:
  • SD Cards not detected after boot
  • SD cards not detected if larger than 1 GB
  • SD card speed unstable/buggy
  • NAND currently unsupported
  • Inadequate screen brightness, diagonal waving, blinking
  • Terrible power management
  • Long loading time
  • Movie resets after being paused
  • Xvid A/V desync
  • Slowdown after EQ selection
  • Red LED bug
Possible Hardware Issues:
  • Badly soldered headphone jack
  • USB cable problem
  • Power switch problem
  • Red LED doesn't turn on
Other Issues:
  • USB supported only by Windows 2000 (SP4) and Windows XP

[*]USB cable problem

For the USB problem I have heard of some dodgy soldering causing solder bridges to neighboring components. I guess it won't do us much good to know though unless you want to take the back off to see if that is the problem. Warranty may void though if you do that.

BTW looking on the official site I see people talking about 2 firmware updates. I know one is the ebook and mp3 fix but whats the second one?

Is there anyway to stop the battery life draining so fast? Ive done a new pair of batterys straight out of the packet in no less than an hour and this is without constant use.

It's a known issue ... both CPUs are being powered at full speed, as well as the TV-out chip, from what I've read. Firmware upgrade should fix it as well as other minor issues.

It's all part of the fun of being an early adopter :)

Edited for crap spelling
