Best Batteries??

It stands for milli amp hours. Which is how many hours they can supply one milli amp for. An amp is the unit of power (voltage * current) and milli amp meens one thousanth of an amp. So yes the bigger the number the longer the battery will last.
And here I was thinking Watts was the SI unit of power, amps is the unit for current.
1000mAH at 1.5volts (same as AA cells) is 1.5WH, that at a power use of 1.5 watts would give you a hour of battery life.

!!!! Sorry I was quite tired when I posted that. Thats embarasing :( woops

The Hama i saw were quite cheap : 4 AA @ 2500 mAh + a charger for 20 euro, instead, like Kmeru said; 22 euros for 4 AA ernergizer @ 2500 mAh.
I think i will buy them if mine doesn't last enough time.

I recently bought some of the Hama 2500mah batteries from 7dayshop to replace my old Uniross 1700mah ones.
The only thing i've used them in so far is my wireless PS2 pad but they've lasted far longer than the old batteries so far so i'm happy with them.

As for how much difference they'll make in a gp2x, hopefully that will be revealed next week :)

I can't remember the last time I bought any rechargeables. I checked the the ones I had in my camera & they were only 1300mAH ...... nowhere near good enough for the GP2X!!

Anyway, while searching the web for rechargeables, I came across a make called "Profitexx", a Polish firm. Although I've never heard of them before I think I may take a chance & get some of these. They're 2700mAH (the highest I've ever seen for a rechargeable).

I think they're cheap enough to make them worth trying, & if they're crap .... it's £6.25 .... a few beers, a pack of ciggies etc!! ;) . Here is a link to them

What batteries do you guys recommend for the GP2X?

I'd like to get some ready for next week.

I use Energizer rechargeables, NiHM 2500mAH

In my GP32, they last ~6-8 hours/pair.

But just remember peeps, the Gp2x will be doing it all (Emulated games, music, movies, viewing photos, e-books, etc), so the batteries will last whatever time depending on what you do with your Gp2x. Well that's if you're like me and take full advantage of it. Not that I have one yet. :(

if u r going to do play movies, music and games, why not get the ac adapter?

that has to be the dumbest thing I have ever read, its a portable for one and really the only thing it does is play movies, music, and games.

So getting an AC adaptor would pretty much kill the whole reason to get it.

The beta firmware which is on the first units does not help - its in max power mode all the time - but don't worry, this will come right down with the next firmware update, giving similar battery times to the GP32.

Thanks for the update Craig.

Looking forward to this puppy!

That sounds good craig. Can't wait.

Also, I can't imagine that no one on earth would want an AC cable. I know that I'm going to be using my GP2X at least a little bit when I'm at home, sitting next to an outlet.

so,would it be safe to assume we would see a firmware update a few weeks from now?

I plan to get an adapter and matching tip at Radio Shack for mine. While I primarily will be playing SNES games and the DooM/Quake series, when I do watch a movie, it'll likely be sitting next to me plugged in so I can work while watching. It's rather inconvienient to make my application windows smaller to fit in a video player window =)

Great news. I was getting ready to lug around a car battery ;)

just one question..

can batteries be recharged just by plugging the ac connector to the gp2x?

i think that building an external battery pack with 4 batteries for extra playing it's a simple electronic job (buying the right plastic case, some wire, the right connctor and 1or 2 resistancies for voltage regulation)
why i need such a long batterylife?
every 2 weeks i make a 15 hours trip by train  :p
