Take a closer look at the high res pictures of the GP2X everyone. It seems like GPH have decided to put the headphones jack at the top of the GP2X. This makes absolutely no sense people. You will either have to play your GP2X with the cord to your headphones in your line of vision when you are looking at the screen, or you'll have to wrap the cord of your headphones around the back of the unit making the cord much shorter.

Ya know what I mean?

I'm not so sure. My headphones have a pretty short wire, and I'll probably have to play 2 inches away from the screen with the cord wrapped around back. I also don't feel like buying headphones with a longer cord, as I love my current ones.

Dude, they probably didnt have a choice, its hard to move each circuit around and put fix hardware around just so the Headphone jack will be on the bottom....

besides... Headphone cords are long enough as it is... most of the time i have to use a rubber band to make mine smaller cause they always get in the way..

im sure you will survive. to picky people this may be an inconvenience but for me, i dont care...

Most headphones come with like 2-3 feet of cord, im sure that is plenty, not like you are going to be playing your GP2X from 3 feet in front of you...

It's not a flaw. It's a design choice. And you only noticed this now? This is such a small issue (many people, including myself, would debate that it even rates as an "issue") that it's not worth getting all upset about.

Tip: Don't buy an iPod. You'll get very upset.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

*dies laughing

TyBO!: or write a program that flips everything using the video chip(the one that can scale and rotate stuff in 90 degree intevals without much cpu usage) and use your GP2X upside down. :D

This drawing sucks, but it illustrates my point.

Just drape it down the back. Then it's not in the way of the controls or the screen and you don't have a buttload of slack. Just an idea.

You could um, buy headphones with a cable longer than four inches. That might be a decent stopgap solution. I think GPH should add an FPU before they worry about which way your headphone cable has to wrap around. Personally it'd bug me to have it on the side, dangling and interfering with my hands manipulating the controls or jutting out INTO my hands, and on the bottom, well, it would just look terribly awkward in that orientation.

i'm actually excited about the headphone jack on the top of the unit. i make music with my gameboy and gp32 and it helps reduce wire-clutter in the studio when the cables don't have to wrap under/around whatever gear i'm using to get to my soundcard/mixer. that's one reason i love the gba-sp design so much!

I'm afraid that truly does suck lol. I honestly wondered whether it was a suggestion of draping the cable down the back, or an instruction for Tybo to slam his face in a door. At least, until I saw the footnote lol.

Agreed that its not exactly a major issue though. Something we can, I reckon, all live with.

yeah, tybo, don't sweat it. it's not that bad, but i see your point.
not a design flaw, though.

It makes perfect sense to have the headphone jack at the top of an iPod since most people who own one stick the thing in their pocket, and don't look at the screen very much. It's a shorter distance from the top of your pocket to your ears than it is from any other point inside your pocket. It would be inconvienent to have the input on the bottom, since the cord would have to reach several more inches than necessary to reach your ears.

I know it sounds trivial, but the engineers who designed the iPod put that into consideration when they made it, which is why the jack is on the top.

On the Nintendo DS, Gameboy Color, and NeoGeo Pocket (and probably PSP, though I don't own one so I'm not sure) the headphone jack is on the bottom of the handheld, and it's for the exact reason I said in my first post. It's less likely to get in the way of your vision from the bottom, and you don't have to wrap it around the back of the unit (like in BlackDayz's illustration) because that would shorten the amount of slack the cord has.

I think I have a valid point, and I agree, it's not a major issue, but it's still a mistake that could have been avoided.
