OT, but of interest I hope :)

Theres a number of USB adapters for PC joypads, so I got to wondering.. any way to hook up a good old Atari/Commodore style joystick? (You know, the 9bit connector they all had back in the day)

A USB 9pin adapter would rock. I've still got a couple old Wico batsticks, and they'd rock for desktpo emus :)

Not sure about desktops but one could be hacked into the Gp2X pretty easy. Just solder wires to the traces that lead to the various switches and mount a connector on the side. Now you could plug in those old d-9 joysticks to the gp2X :)

These guys have to be doing it somehow...

Now if there were just a (practical) way to feed 5v to the 'Perfect 360' (or whatever Sanwa, Happ, Wico, etc. rebrand them to) photogate-switch sticks to get them working...

I have one of those, I use it for my Competition Pro Clear and my Konix Navigator in ST/Amiga/Atari 800 emulators.

It's pretty good but there are issues. The cable appears as a standard HiD controller to windows but the joystick directionals register as both hat-switch and button presses (on buttons 3/4/5/6) simultaneously. This means that you have to be careful how you map it in the emulator.

Atari800WinPlus for example won't let you map all the additional functions and button 3 is hard coded to "Turn Off Throttling". This means that if you move down with the joystick you also speed up the emu to something like 1200%!

WinUAE and Steem Engine both work flawlessly, I've not tried any others.

If you liked the classic Comp Pro as much as the rest of us did back then, you may like to know its now available as a usb pc joystick!

if you happen to still have a parallel/game port, you can hook up next to any old controller to the parallel port with a few diods.

c64:

gameport: (2 sticks on one port)

(only one stick but way simpler)

This also works simmilar with snes and other pads.

DaveC - it would sort of be redundant on a gp2x, but it is mildly tempting ;) Hmm..

In the end I got lazy (due to being busy hopefully :) and ordered the Stella Adapter; I'll post a review when I get it. Should prove interesting..

Yes and no. Let's say you are playing 2 player Atari 400, 5200 or ST etc. games where the controls alternate (not playing at the same time) on TV-out. Instead of passing the GP2x back and forth the other player could have his own stick.

A little far-fetched I know but it would be good for that I guess.

Whats the story on the tv-out? This is a sure-thing, user accessible? What sort of connector? Or is it just on the board, but not a hole in the case, so we'll have to mod the case to get at it?

Could be pretty interesting. Joystick mod, TV out mod, use it as a portable game machine.

Mark my words.. if theres a tv-out on it, then a mp3 player "light synth" will come for sure :p
